9th Annual 3dmm.com Awards 2007
Space Goat's Avatar
Plot Summary:
All your votes have been tallied, and the winners are announced, in this year's annual 3dmm.com awards movie. We invite you to sit back, relax, and enjoy this compilation of clips taken from 2007's list of nominees.

I'm happy to announce that it's finally time to declare the winners of 9th Annual 3dmm.com Awards!

For this year, I've decided to include a vimeo version of the movie, although I highly recommend you download the WMV version, as the quality and audio timing of the vimeo video is somewhat degraded from the original cut. Not to mention, a high resolution photo of the trophies, along with a text file containing the detailed voting results, can be found in the ZIP file of the downloadable WMV version.

Special thanks to all of those who helped make this movie possible. Tom Breed was extremely helpful in handling the nominations, and was always eager to pitch in a helping hand during the making of the final presentation. Michael Sandford lended his animation talents for the opening introduction, and HMC created some wonderful vector artwork that we had professionally engraved onto the trophies.

Also, just a quick explanation about the opening introduction; You will see a faceless avatar wearing green and purple clothing emerge from a hospital ambulance in a wheelchair. This character is intended to be a metaphor for the aging 3DMM community, and the introduction ends with the uplifting effect all the great movies released last year had on it.

Thanks for viewing, and please leave comments!

I loved the music and how it synced up and everything. Really great stuff.
*takes best comedy award and runs*

Congrats to everyone! I didn't expect the best director result at all!

Goddamn, that was well-made. It always amazes me how good you are at this kind of thing, Goat. And Sandford's intro stuff was fun as always.

Best Movie: Jim McGraff!? Well, I can't really complain. Though I was hoping for Jon Barton to get recognized, I have to admit that Devils + Angels wasn't my favorite movie of 2007 (that one wasn't nominated ). All in all, either of these two would've made a fine choice, along with 20 Bucks Later, so Dan, congratulations. It's nice to see you get recognized as well. Welcome to the short list of Best Movie winners (but only me and Jason Ruiz are on the list of two-time Best Movie winners, so suck on that, you plank).

Best Director: This was another surprise. First of all, huge congrats to Sandford. Now, I disagreed with how this category should work back when we were deciding how to structure the categories. I thought that we should be honoring the direction of a single work rather than deciding who was the "best overall director". And while Sandford is a great animator and excellent at pacing his movies, it almost makes the category into "most prolific director". But I won't suggest that the community is wrong for voting him, or that there's anything flawed about the category, just that I had a different interpretation of the category. And Michael, you definitely deserve recognition on this level, so congratulations and enjoy your trophy

Best Horror: Holy shit, really? Scientifically Proven? Although I have to admit it had some great claustrophobic elements to it and that camera spiral and those expressions were downright creepy. It just came off as more of a horror/comedy whereas the other two were more outright horror movies. I actually voted for Pigeon Toes here because it was genuinely unsettling and made me jump. Congrats Jon!

Best Voice Actor: WILL THIS NEVER END? Hahaha but seriously Jaymond you deserve this and you basically always have.

Best Community Member: Damn right!

On Devils + Angels: Best Writer, Best Cinematography, Best Drama. If it didn't get the top prize, it certainly deserved to clean up the way it did in the more prestigious categories. All in all, I can't complain too much (though I leave Jon the option of doing so if he wants).

On Mario Saga 2: It legitimately deserved everything it got. That said, all of the competing entries for Art Design were stellar and amazingly unique. HMC destroys the competition even when it performs at its peak. Congratulations.

Best Animation: This one really bothered me when I went to vote for it. The Augustin dance test legitimately has the best animation of the entries submitted. But was it just a dancing rig Lord Raidis found and exported as an action for Augustin? To be sure, he did choreograph it in an amazing and hilarious way, and it deserves all the praise it got. But it feels like something in an entirely different class as the other entries, in style and execution. With Jon and Liam's default actions project, how will we judge animation like this in the future, compared to what Dominator Dan or Michael Sandford do in a more classic way? The floor is open for discussion.

Other thoughts: -I didn't get a single award this year. First time since 2003. It's about time.

-I maintain that RadioFlyer should've been in the Best Movie category. I found it better than any of the provided choices, and was annoyed that it got shoehorned into the Sci-Fi/Fantasy category and thus wasn't eligible for anything else. Without Best Short or Best Mixed-Genre, hard-to-classify movies like this get screwed over.

-Great movie montage. Seriously, I can't stress enough what a good editing job this was.

-Whatever happened to Danny Mears, I wonder?

-I wish you'd included the vote tallies in the bottom-right corner or something. I'm sure they'll be posted in text form, but even so.

That was awesome.

oh shit, so wait, who came second by the 1 vote? cause i thought it would be between d+a and spaceman carl, same with the director thing really, but wow, thanks a ton guys! This has definitely got me jumping back into Handsome Man in Australia, just a few more things to do!

To be brutally honest, I thought best directing was about making it look proper professional and really capture emotion, so by default i thought D+A and Goro's 2 movies, sandford's like me really, we just dish out silly stuff and try and make it a blast to watch with slammin' animation, but I GUESS THE PUBLIC HAVE SPOKEN, WELL DONE KID

EDIT: i didn't stress this enough THANKS SO MUCH GUYS, this certainly has been a WINNING YEAR, popularity survivor wise n all , now to win that art competition at my college, that will actually bag me a few grand!

edit: no wait this was 2007 awards, popularity survivor was THIS YEAR, oh whatever

came, saw it, did time, busta rhyme, commenting

Like tom breed said this was fucking insperational! Now I want to complete our leader. The intro was exceptional mike, though I don't usually like community dramas but it did bring a tear to my eye, great job.

I was saddened about the fact that our leader teaser trailer was'nt included in the montage & that it didn't win best trailer, but goro had it coming alright.

I was suprised when I saw the result for best movie because you don't usually see a pam winning that but yeah, it was good.

Overall a great movie reflecting on 3dmm's worst year.
Great job goat.
9.5 out of 10.

Thank you everyone for your comments so far, and congratulations to all the winners! You know, it wasn't really as bad a year as some say. I had lots of great material to work with when compiling this movie.

I'm really sorry about that, and I forgot to apologize to you and James Ballard (whose "Zombie 2" didn't appear in the montage either). In your case, it was because the only video you posted was on youtube, so I didn't have a proper source.

This was really excellently done, makes me want to make some 3dmm movies, almost. I think the only category I really disagree with was best animation but I still obviously understand why it won. Really well made.

YES! I loved it! I watched it twice
The montage was done perfectly as expected. Clips were well synced, and the music chosen had me in suspense.

Lord Raidis' animation is by far the best animation, but in the future I think there should be a category for 3dmm animation alone (since the animation was obviously done in 3dsm)

w00t for me! I think the last time I won something was best newbie or something in 2002

Very well done, I thought most of the results were brilliant. Stuff I thought below:

20 Bucks Later got FUCKING ROBBED. If it wasn't for HmC, it should have got Best Scenery. And only 2% for it to win best movie? Jesus. Guess it's this years GITS.

Congrats to Sandford, Brocklehurst (especially Brocklehurst), Dan, Tuna, and anyone else who won and has some connection to Ugmo

Exceptions also got robbed. What won best short? * checks * there WASN'T ONE?!?!? what the hell Exceptions deserved that.

Goat, you did a fantastic job, and thanks for the mention! I would have helped more if you asked so I guess next year I will see if I can lend a hand in more ways!

That was brilliant! Very tight, these things tend to be pretty drawn-out sometimes, but you did an excellent job, Goat. The movie montage couldn't have been any better, the sum-up at the end worked so well it *almost* brought a tear to my eye. Very inspirational. Is there a chance you could post a list of the music you used here?

Best movie: Not my personal pick for best movie, even if it was a very fun one! Not even sure what I voted for myself, but I think it was Devils + Angels. I also feel this category has too many nominations.

Best director: I agree with Aaron here, and although Sandford deserves as much recognition he can get, I personally don't think he was the best director of the year (but definitely the most productive one).

Or maybe I'm just envious because those are two sexy-looking trophies, congratulations to both of you!

Random thoughts: I'm happy that Devils + Angels won a few awards (3, 4 if you count Jaymond's for voice acting), it definitely was one of the highlights last year. I think RadioFlyer should have gotten an award of some kind. Why wasn't there a best short movie category? Because most movies are... short? I also wish 20 Bucks Later would have gotten a nod of some kind, I really appreciate all the effort that went into this.

Good job, everybody! Not such a bad year after all. Now let's make this an even better one!

21%, it even beat Devils + Angels, but I agree - I wish it had gotten an award as well. Perhaps not best movie, but best scenery?
