emf tags should be only sound tags

Why is it that everything you customize is bad goat

When I first added the EMFF tag a couple years ago, Flash could only stream MP3 files recorded at frequency of 44100 Hz. If you tried to embed an MP3 recorded at a different frequency, it would play it way too fast.

I'm not sure if this limitation still exists with the newer versions of Adobe's Flash plugin, but I do know for certain that it doesn't support other audio formats like WAV and AIF. That is why I have kept the old sound tags; basically for legacy purposes.

To put it more simply, the EMFF tag can't do everything the SND tag can do, and vise versa.

Some people also like SND for its small player. Its why Scatterbrain uses it in the 60 minute contest. I kinda wish EMFF had a mini player, but either way I'd only use EMFF.

I hate SND cause it almost always has audio glitches in the files for me after I've played the sound once. Dunno why.

SND tags don't work for a lot of users. For me on some machines it just shows up as a black box. For tuna it shows up as text.

that's really weird how people get so many different errors. Like Lohr said I use them in the 60 minute contests because they fit perfectly in the polls, which is my reason for wanting them to stay. I have no problem using EMFFs in the main post for anyone having problems.

I have a new slimmed down version of the emff player I have been meaning to update the site with. It should solve that complaint. Ideally, you should use the emff tag whenever possible, since they only download the remote sound file on demand.

BTW, the SND tag uses a bulky WMP plugin if you don't have Quicktime installed, and if your browser can't do either of those plugins, then you just get a link.

I don't get a black bar or text or a link. I get a scroll bar and then it starts playing automatically. It's really annoying when people use that song from Plants VS Zombies 50x in a thread.

Like the 3dmm radio thread? http://www.3dmm.com/showthread.php?t=37535 You know how annoying it is to open that thread every time and get an annoying over compressed voice screaming at you? What a TERRIBLE THING you have done Taco's Page.

It's because the snd tags are quicktime and quicktime is a piece of shit.

It's not using quicktime if you don't have it installed. It uses javascript to determine whether to use quicktime or windows media player.

I'm thinking I might modify it so that the SND tag switches to the emff player if the file is MP3. That is assuming Flash can handle varying frequencies now.

flash could always handle various file types. Maybe it couldn't like 14 years ago. maybe that shitty version compiled with actionscript 0.5 couldn't do it.

windows media player in browser is an even bigger piece of shit btw

EMFF tag now uses a custom skinned player that fits better inline with your text: ERROR: You do not have Flash installed.

SND and SND2 tags have both been updated to use the EMFF player if the file is MP3.

If the file is WAV, or some other audio format, then it will default back to the old quicktime or wmp plugin that it used before.

As far as I know, it's not possible to stream at runtime anything but MP3 files in Flash, and this is why the EMFF player doesn't support other audio formats.

On an unrelated note, I'm probably going to remove the SND2 tag one of these days, so please stop using it. It is exactly the same as the SND tag.
