What's a fab video editing software?

For my uni project I'm kinda unsure about what I'm doing, but an idea i'm definitely gonna try out was one of those MUSIC COMPILATION things, liek that Lasse Gjertsen guy, where you clip loads of sounds together to make some sort of dodgy BEAT.

but yeah i was trying it on windows movie maker (lol) cause it's the only video editing thing i have, and it struggles with the incredibly SHORT video clips and seems to randomly change the length of them when i put them in the timeline, AND THAT FUCKS EVERYTHING UP.

preferably something that's free/cheap, if not then do people know if imovie has the same problem? cause i have access to the uni computers and they have that, but i've never used it before.

PC: Adobe Premiere Pro

Mac: Final Cut Pro

You can download a 30-day trial for Premiere.

Definitely use Ableton. Its what I use for all my music videos. You literally don't even need to look at the video until you've finished the song... because it treats the video AS AUDIO.

Its fucking awesome.

Here's some stupid videos I quickly made entirely in Ableton, I did a bunch of warping (stretching the video to make them speak to the beat), cutting, and a tiny bit of autotuning in them.

I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio. I suggest you try the demo. I liked it a lot more than everything else on the PC market. I do not recommend the Correl and Pinnacle products out there. I tried both and found them to be very crash happy.

For the first time, I made this years awards movie with Sony Vegas. Hopefully you'll get to see that very soon!

My friend who knows a lot about film/sound engineering swears by Vegas.

I always hated Vegas, Premiere and Final Cut are solid and stable because virtually the same.

For video editting Vegas is damn awesome, for more advanced stuff I'd say premiere.

As for the music stuff, I haven't tried Ableton with video but I can imagine how easy it is to use

Premiere is definitely great, but I imagine it could be very intimidating for a new user to video editting. Like coming from Windows Movie Maker or something, Vegas was always a perfect transition.

You better start serious from the very beginning. Premiere/FC are a lot more efficient. And I like efficiency.

I've used Premiere, Vegas, and Final Cut and they were all solid. They'll definitely work for what you need. This Ableton sounds intriguing though...
