Here's a better source: Even if a consensus on precise definitions has proved elusive, most observers today would agree that, at a minimum, the fundamental features of a democracy include government based on majority rule. In conclussion, fuck you.

hahaha! Yes! Well I got what I came for. I'm off to bed.

It's funny because that's what happened.

Yes, and it's also funny because the decision is going to be sued against, and it's also funny because regardless of whether California makes a dumb fucking decision or not, eventually the Federal Government is going to tell them and every other state to cut the shit and legalize gay marriage for everyone regardless of who voted for it. The "people" haven't really spoken, because shockingly, the constitution and the law's interpretation aren't determined by a bunch of homophobic yahoos.

I don't think you understand what you are talking about. California citizens cannot arbitrarily add anything they want to the Constitution, regardless of popular support, and the decision will eventually be overturned by either the Federal government or by a bunch of lawsuits.

You are so stupid that you confuse the idea of majority rule with the idea of the rule of the mob. This is because you are ignorant of anything but the most basic principles of society.

but please, tell me how Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement got those rights. Did they "get out the vote"? They had to convince everyone to vote pro-black people? Please, keep avoiding that issue and playing meaningless games about the definition of "majority rule". It doesn't make a shred of difference to your argument whether "the people have spoken" or not because your whole moronic argument is something to the extent of "hahah you guys are dumb because the people voted against this" when historically the masses have oppossed almost every form of progress that has been achieved through activism and protesting.

Even if your dumb notion of society being ruled by the mob were true, your moronic taunts and cynicism regarding people's acts regarding Prop 8 show that you don't know shit about history and you don't know shit about how meaningful societal change happens. But this is hardly a surprise to anyone, because you are an idiot cocksucker.

BTW your source is terrible. You goddamn nitwit, that is supposed to be a comparison between authoritarian states and more democratic ones, of course it's going to be focused on the people's participation in electoral processes. But that's not the only component of a democracy, and in fact that people's participation is dramatically hindered by the other aspects of a democracy, which is what I have been trying to explain to you for an entire page. You stupid man.

I wouldn't be bothered by Adrian's cynicism if it was backed by anything other than complete ignorance of political processes. If he actually knew a goddamn thing about what he's talking about and expressed doubt on current strategies, sure.

After all that's said and done by your friends at 3dmm.com, do you feel any differently towards gay marriage? Just curious ;p

We won't forget about it. But I don't want to archive it until we're sure it's done.

My personal opinion is exactly the same as it was the first time I entered this thread. I understand a little better where people come from, but my opinion that gay marriage is really none of my concern as long as it's not in a church stands.

this is not okay

I don't care if its intolerant, and I understand to some degree that I'm being hypocritical, but this is just plain not okay with me

as long as there's no genocide in MY country its not my concern.
