Why is there no Quantum of Solace thread yet?

...or have I just missed it? In any case - first time I saw it, I didn't think it was Bond-like enough. Saw it again, and I changed my mind a little. The action sequences were awesome, but missed the level of suaveness of the other Bond movies (even Casino Royale had the detonator-on-the-belt).

Pretty cool film though.

It wasn't as good as I expected, but it wasn't bad. Just mediocre.

Themetune was crap though, Casino Royale's was much better.

yeah i couldn't help feeling a little underwhelmed. Sounded like a great combo in theory, and a great guitar riff but it just seemed TOO 'minimal' i was waiting for a huge bond orchestra to sweep in at some point.

It was entertaining, but not as good as Casino Royale. The story was pretty meh, but the action scenes were pretty fun! I just didn't like the frenetic filming, I had enough of that in the Bourne-movies. I like being able to see what's going on. Still, Daniel Craig has to be the coolest Bond yet.

I thought it was a pretty average movie. I didn't go opening night because I wanted to see it so bad or anything... but I thought Dominic Greene was an awesome bad guy

6.5/10

The action cinematography mimicked the Bourne series too much. Still an enjoyable watch though, just lacked the cleanness and style of Casino Royale.

Yeah...pretty much what everyone else said. It's good, but it didn't blow me away like Casino Royale. It wasn't nearly as fun either.

The opening sequence was over the top Bourne with its editing. I really wasn't feeling that chase at all, but I think it wasn't as bad for the rest of the movie.

I thought it was great. Like everyone and their mother has said, it's not as good as Casino Royale, but Casino Royale was fucking awesome so I don't see that as a huge problem. The action wasn't very coherent, but it was still fun to watch.

I really, really didn't like them using the "MI6 cuts off Bond" gimmick AGAIN for the second time in a row - that bothered me more than anything else, although the jerky cinematography wasn't good either. But yeah, I agree that the villain was great (reminded me a lot of Ben from Lost). Overall, pretty subpar but not terrible.

I'm on the fence. The action sequences were fairly well done but as others had pointed out I couldn't help but be reminded of the Bourne series the whole way through them. The story seemed too broad and complex and they stretched it too thin. The villain was well done but his motives were revealed in a less than stellar way and ultimately the end felt kind of rushed and barren. Maybe others will agree but the movie felt a bit...empty.

The one thing that I noticed a lot was editting problems. The best example was when Greene was hobbling away from the hotel and Bond goes "Wait right here" then the next scene Bond gets out of the SUV and throws Greene into the desert. Now I understand he went and picked up Greene but it was so awkwardly done. There were so many other moments like this that made the audience just assume things had happened that I felt were either a) already filmed but cut at the last minute or b) written into the script but had to be taken out without tying loose ends.

In any case I am glad to see somewhat of a more dimensional Bond character even if the story wasn't fully realized. They could've done so much more if they had given an extra 20-30 minutes to explain things.

Thinking about this, I'm honestly not. I think that was one of my biggest problems with the movie. Seeing him whining over drinks on the plane just felt horribly wrong and not Bond.

it's Bond but he's got FEELINGS. Some bits were pretty annoying...the editing in action sequences for one. First time, like I said, i was in the second row, fucking massive screen, couldn't follow it. Second time, far back, smaller screen, just as hard to follow really. Some bits seemed a bit too thinly stretched and I definitely agree there were bits that seemed really awkwardly placed as if they cut bits out of whatever.

Loved when he decides the hotels crap despite it fitting their cover so he tells the classy hotel. "We're teachers on sabbatical......and we've just won the lottery." i really like Craig's dry way of saying things and as a Bond he's sort of like Timothy Dalton but possibly better. Don't know if anyone else sees that?
