"Dreamer" - A new live action Contour Film

Yeah man!

I just wrote a FUCKING LONG thread, but, on previewing, it came up blank, I pressed back and it was all FUCKING GONE!

Anyway, the past few days me and a bunch of suprisingly up-for-it friends have been filming a movie I wrote using my Hi8 video camera. Some screenshots are below:

The story of the filme centres on a boy called "Edward", played by my friend Jon, who is being targetted, in his sleep, by a man from Hell called Serpus, who needs Ed to say a word in his sleep so that he can pass through Ed and back into the real world, where he aims to better his status in Hell by killing the two people Ed holds most dearly. I play Orpheus, the narrator from Heaven who's been sent to help Ed against Serpus.

It's been really great fun filming on zero budget. We've managed dolly shots using a trolley my old building blocks were kept in, done one continuous shot where five of us were in a room moving things for when the shot moved back (very Sixth Sense and What Lies Beneath) and had an overall fun, yet very tiring time filming.

The screenshots below come from a scene at the start of the movie where Ed has taken sleeping pills to see if Orpheus will come back into his dream again. The result of his doing so, however, is a nightmare where Serpus violenltly appears for the first time in the movie and threatens to burn Ed's face off if he deosn't speak his password.

There's a subtle similarity to another well-known story. Serpus (Latin, I think, for Snake) needs Edward Victor Eastman to speak his password ("Apple") so that he can get back to Earth - or Ed's street, "Eden Road". It'll be more clear when I upload, which should be some time towards the end of the summer, as next week both my cast and I are all going on separate family holidays.

So here's the screenshots, Hi8 being to blame for the fuzziness:

Ed is in his kitchen when this door violently slams shut. This is the slow dolly shot after that... any similarity to the Sixth Sense not intentional... yup... riiiiiight...

After opening the door, Serpus jumps out from behind and pins Ed to the door.

As the nightmare reaches its burning conclusion, Ed is lifted out of the dream. This is the effect I used to demonstrate the dream being torn apart:

We then launch into a smooth love scene with Ed's desire, Julia. Though notice her tattoo:

Well, that's all for now. Thanks for your interest. The movie should be DEFINITELY done by September, though probably before then.

Tell me what you think!

Ben

When it's finished I'm gunna nicely ask if anyone has some webspace for me to rape - my compressing skills leave lots to desire, so it'll probably tot up to about 30MB!

But yes, it's my intention to upload it when it's done.

Also to send it into BBC Blast, as my brother's mate said I should...

Pinnacle Studio DC10 - captures analogue video for editing in AVI format.

Excellent tool, though 10 minutes = 1GB!!

I got a 20GB drive put in a year after I got it, and I've been editing Dreamer fine with it. I even had an hour long Documentary I made on the disc up until yesterday when I ran out of room and had to delete it.

what you could do is do say 20 mins then compress it

then do another 20 mins and compress using thesame settings

then keep doing this till you have a few files

then use an avi meger to merge it all in to one file

then compress it again

and see what you get

www.divx.com

i think that has loads of info on how to compress avi to divx

I might be able to send you a program that i have for Premiere that can export the timeline into a streaming movie such as a .wmv or Real Video file. I managed to compress a 14 minute movie into a 4MB file.

Well if QAZ thinks it's horrible, then SORRY.

Joking - but, 14 minutes of film into 4MB ... I'm sorry, I'm finding that a little hard to believe!

Go check out my thread CrazyIvan Films Live Action Shorts in the off topic threads forum and download any of the movies in there to see how high of quality I can compress into a relatively small file. Go! In fact, here's a link to it:

Yeah I been having loads of trouble with that. Though I was suprised that I downloaded a 50KB file and got about two seconds of footage and double that in music. Dunno how I managed to just download 50kb, but that's another story. I've been trying to get "Motion" for about two days, but what with my stupid connection, parents wanting to use the phone and my short temper I've only been able to get half way through a frikkin 3.something download.

If I'm successful today with it, I'll fire up GetRight and begin downloading Soul Man.

But please, if you have that compression software, I'd love it.

miltons run rules

end of story

what u should do is get a dvd writer or a cd writer and burn super high quality dvd's

vcd's are about 15 meg a minute

so u could get 1 or 2 films on 1 disc

but dvds hold 4.7 gig

u could put all your movies and special features on 1 disc

Hey PETE!

I'm really impressed by the codec you've used for your films. If there is any way in hell you can get it to me, I'd ... I dunno... father your children or something! PLEASE!
