Afterthoughts #3: Delicate Mind

Afterthoughts #3: Delicate Mind
By far this is the best Drama that I have seen so far, the Music [all of it being from American Beauty] was good, and the plot was great. This has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. The plot has a good mix of suspense, drama, and humor that creates a formula that is unable to be duplicated. There are some really hillarious moments throughtout the movie and many classic lines. Another thing that I enjoyed was the scenery and voice acting. The scenes were simple, but the plot is so engrossing that you dont even notice. The voice acting (By: Tuna) was excellent! Although not as good as he was in Discontented...Character development was good [you knew who they were and why they did many of the things they did]. And overall this movie was just a classic, my current favorite *CURRENT*.

10/10
They dont get better than this.

Sinse you didn't mention my great voice acting, you're fired from giving your opinion!!!

hehehe... uhhh... also, the credit music was not from American Beauty, it was from "End of Days" soundtrack, which I put in, because what Blake had was horrible!

Our first major disagreement arisies here. You found this movie quite... perfect, were as I found many many flaws.

Delicate Mind, upon release was quite well recieved by the community and remains widely known still. The movie was quite successfull in achieving a mood, and establishing characters... but everything else in my oppinion failed. The movie focuses on a boy named Blake, he is sick of life and the 'routine', so when a new boy shows up, who is everything Blake isn't, Blake decides to 'befriend' him.

The movie starts relatively well, but as the characters unravel, it real hurdles down hill. First you have this character wining about how hard off he is, when he totally isn't, certainly not enough to make a movie about, so this really detached me from the movie. Then he starts to like this kid, who is just an ASS. If I saw this kid at my school I would punch him in the face and tell him to grow a little respect. Then Blake our main character TOTALLY abandons himself; until now weve known him as this guy whos sick of being all good and prissy and then he sees the new kid and totally loves everything about him. So wouldn't Blake then become more like this kid he likes? Well not in this story. In this story Blake decides that he would rather have the kid become like him to live a misserable life just like him. All quite unrealistic. Actually all the characters are quite unrealistic. The new boy is your typical "acts mean, but actually soft on the inside" well I found it quite chliched. The spelling teacher has a few gramatical errors herself, which is very unrealistic for a spelling teacher. ect. As well the lame attepts at art fail. Such as the backwards spelt stuff on the chalkboard. Another quite unrealistic part would be the two kids idea of fun "porn and homework," maybe I really am talking to a bunch of 10 year olds, but I thought that the community was a bit more mature and less nerdy than to be able to relate to that crap!

The movies ending further abandons what you would think these characters would do, and in the end I just felt like the movie was much to frail to outway the good sides.

Blake, you know how to make a good movie, but you really need some help with your story planning. Just ask if you would like someone to help you edit your future film scripts.

3.5/5

*shakes head at Snell*

Blake was one of the quiet, loner people you see at school. At the beginning he complained how his life was the same and it repeated over and over.

Danny came into the picture and Blake saw how destructive and completely different he was from himself. Naturally, he was intrigued by that because he has no friends and just thinks that everyone else is similar to him.

When Danny was asked if he needed help and shed a little tear, that was a clear indication to the audience that he acts that way because he's not smart (and yes Snell, that is believable because that type of situation has been proven in studies).

Time passes and they become friends. Blake does not try to make Danny be like himself, no where is that said or implied during the movie. All he does is try to make people respect him, because he's gotten to know the "real" Danny and not the Danny people see as a total reject of society.

...the only really bad thing was the ending, with the crucifix and Danny killing the girl. It made it out like Blake's attempts were useless and Danny's the devil or something, hehe... I dunno, I just found that weird. Then the dad shot Danny because he killed his daughter... that part was at least clear.

And your comments about the teacher, the "art attempt" and you thought people couldn't be able to relate to these character...

Ok, the teacher having grammatical errors... Blake Walker wrote the script, SHE'S NOT REAL! WOW! WHAT A CONCEPT!

The "Art attempt" as you call it... what the hell? I'm quite sure it was just backwards and weird looking because it was supposed to look like a chalkboard... WITH CHALK ON IT! *GASP!* I think one of the words were like "/\/ | \/\" (Nine Inch Nails) and like, the word "fuck" or something. Who knows about that one though, it's Blake's movie. Your focus shouldn't have been on that in the first place, seems like you're just looking for something to nitpick.

and the whole thing about calling 3dmmers nerds for not being mature for looking at porn and doing homework. What the hell is with that? I do homework with friends... and when I was a little younger (13-15), we went on the internet and looked at naked women. It's was kids do Snell, did you not have friends?

Snell just has sand in his vagina.
WHEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Yeah, on the chalkboard it also said something like "fuck the government" and of course every movie of mine must have some NIN reference.
Im planning a sequel to DM by the way. Its gonna be about Blake 5 years later. He has a career helping mentally ill kids and he has to save a boy. he cant let him slip away like Danny did.....He must.....He must silence the lambs.....

Just make it "Movie Of The Week".

I can arrange you a site so that we can upload the movie of the week and it's accesible to everyone.

Well if people dont enjoy them then maybe I should (change them that is). What I originally intended was something like a weekly magazine or a series based on past movies...

i haven't read many of these until Dan told me about it, and i personally think that its a great idea. keep it up. and personally, i have to agree with Dan on this one, more or less. I'd say it would get a 9 or 9.5 out of 10, mainly because i liked it a lot until he raped that girl and there was a crucifix, i mean, i know kind of what you were getting at, but i just think that that part could have been substituted in the end. the ending was good, too, but i dont like going into deep thoughts right now, im tired, and ive only seen the movie once when i was at Dan's house

Not implied?! The guys bashing peoples heads into desks, then Blake comes along and he wins a spelling b! It was pretty clear to me that this guy was changing.

Andres, you make no sence at all.

I disagree, because the director portrayed Danny in such a way as I felt like he was prick, a jerk, and an outcast. The director didn't have time enough to develope his character to show that Danny actually was a nice guy and he just acted like a prick for no reason, and THEN Blake came and showed people the real Danny.

Either way, it's not like i totally bashed the film. I gave it 3.5/5, and stated the flaws. I don't need to tell people what the high points are because they have allready seen the movie and know.

No, man. It was THE most obvious thing ever that Danny was just a misunderstood kid. How you didn't understand that 5 minutes into the movie just baffles me.

I think that Danny was just misunderstood. He had a bad homelife (I presume) and that is probably why he acted like a prick for no reason...then Blake came along and totally made a positive impact on Danny's life...
