I agree, the contrast between the skylight and the rest of the picture is so great that it pulls your attention to the lighter of the two, which, unfortunately, is the skylight; the design scatters the viewers focal point all over the photograph. The phone is also too blurry to catch the viewers attention upon first glance (also lose the posterizing effect). The subject of the photo is quite appealing though (if only it werent for that damn skylight). As far as placement goes, I feel that you did well, the angle of the phone would bring the viewers attention up through the middle of the photograph and it would blossom from there, but again, the skylight ruins it. I hope this helps on your future photographs.
