Fair enough, not necessarily bad but often used for easy cheap laughs.

The only bit that could be interpreted as making fun of southerners in Idiocracy is probably the first five minutes or so, but the joke is not that they're southern and stupid, it's just that they're stupid.

Watched "True History of the Kelly Gang". I had high hopes for this movie, I really liked the book it was based on, but i was disappointed. The real story of Ned Kelly is so fucking incredible, there really isnt that much reason to change it. Maybe some day a cool Ned Kelly movie will be made. In this one, they turned it into a psychosexual thing where Ned Kelly is a bisexual twink. I'm not opposed to that idea, I do think there's a way to do that where it could be cool. This movie had a lot of cool shots and stuff and the actors were good, but I didn't think they were appropriate actors for the roles at all, and I also thought the writing was pretty cheesy and weak.

Here is what Ned Kelly looked like irl:

Now here is how he looks in the movie:

fuckin silly as hell, right? why did they twinkify him? Cmon yall.

if you dont know the real story of Ned Kelly read the wikipedia article about him, it's a fucking wild story. He was an australian outlaw who was sort of a robin hood figure. He made his final stand in a suit of bulletproof iron armor that constructed for himself out of old plows, killing and wounding lots of cops despite being shot many times. it's the kind of thing that seems too crazy to be real, but it is

The same way this community still functions when none of us have an IQ above 75

Yeah Lady Snowblood fuckin kicks ass. Great movie

I watched Dragon Ball Z Super Broly yesterday. It was great! I'd seen one or two random episodes of Dragon Ball Super before and it seemed pretty bad. I kinda figured DBZ had just run out of steam and become stale. But the movie was fuckin awesome, great animation, great fights, good characters, hilarious music. It was a lot of fun and gave me hope that Dragonball will produce quality content for years to come. It's most likely a franchise that will be around forever, sometimes producing good shit, sometimes producing mediocre shit, but never staying mediocre forever. If you want to watch a kick ass modern dragonball movie you should check out Dragon Ball Super Broly

Mortal Kombat (2021)

Who's brilliant idea was it to take every character in the franchise and make them less interesting? Like if they're lamer they're paradoxically cooler? I was looking forward to seeing this for months and, to be fair, I fell asleep in the middle of it. Just seemed like another soulless corporate movie to me

yeah mortal kombat was largely disappointing. main question I have is more whos fucking idea was it to make an entirely new boring character and make them the MAIN character in a fucking mortal kombat movie!? the whole "arcana" thing explaining how everyone has their powers and abilities from the games was also terribly lazy.

I liked a few things, Kano was easily the most entertaining character, Sub-Zero looked awesome despite his lack of character and everything with Scorpion was great. In fact I'd say their fight at the start of the movie was easily the best scene. Also I just can't help but love it whenever Shang Tsung says YOUR SOUL IS MINE in whatever game or film etc. So hearing it in this film was also a personal highlight.

Despite the film being a let down I'd still be down for a sequel so long as they focus on the ACTUAL Mortal Kombat tournament this time

The Suicide Squad was surprisingly good!

Like, the best DC movie since The Dark Knight. It is also the first tandem-release movie this year that didn't feel rushed out of the door.

It was a little more over-the-top R rated than I'd prefer, but definitely worth watching. James Gunn has a particular style and it works in more than one universe.

The Last Duel - this was really good, it’s a shame it did so badly (over here it was in cinemas for like a week and then was shoved on Disney+). fantastic performances and really strong themes/structure. and the actual duel itself is fucking awesome. I can see Dungeon Snake really liking the duel but idk about the rest of the movie

I watch a lot but I recently saw The King and liked it a lot. It led to me watching War Machine which I also liked a lot. I'm going to check out this director's other movies. I think The King popped up on YouTube for me because I've been furiously jerking off over the new Dune, which was incredible.

I'm a huge Lynch fan and I enjoy his version of Dune, despite its critical reception. For anyone who is on the fence or even those who like the original cut (not the dreadful extended cut that he struck his name from), I urge you to watch the Spicediver edit that is available for free on YouTube. It takes the original film to a different level - the pacing, in particular, is just so much better, and it is a more coherent narrative. The internal monologues are still corny/annoying, and the special effects are what you'd expect from a 1980s movie, but it's great.

I had been counting the days for the new Dune to be released. Denis is an enormous director, in my opinion, and he spoke widely about his passion for the story, so I knew he'd do it justice. I've seen all his films except a couple of the early ones, and all of them have been excellent. He's actually one of the most consistently good directors out there. He did not disappoint. I saw Dune in theaters with a friend (of course my girlfriend hates Dune, mainly because she hates Lynch and his weirdo version spoiled it for her), and we both left in awe of what we'd seen. I did watch it in 4DX (immersive experience with haptic feedback, vibrating/moving seats, mist, wind, etc.) and watching it again at home was no comparison. Anyone who didn't see it in theaters is missing out, truly. Can't wait for Part II.

Going back to The King and War Machine - David Michod reminds me of Denis Villeneuve. They're both French, so maybe that's the common link. Their styles are clean, sterile, filled with a sense of what I'd call maybe dread or unease, at the very least I'd call it dark - it's right up my alley. Lynch has the same effect. He can make a scene in broad daylight with no obvious signs of distress a thing of terror, with his mood, music, etc. Anyway, I really appreciate the type of cinematography I've seen in Villeneuve and Michod's films. Someone more versed with that could explain it better. I'm also a huge Kubrick fan; beyond the movies, mainly for his eye. I'd in fact call him my idol with regard to cinematography, especially his obsession with symmetry, wide angles, and tidy, clean angles/lines. I believe he had a big interest in photography, so it makes perfect sense. While I like a good story, I've always been a sucker for aesthetic, and my own 3dmm movies followed this... light/lazy on story, and more about the visual experience.

I'm sure I'll be watching more movies soon, with it approaching winter and there being little to do outside right now.
