Ok, yeah, I'm playing New Vegas and agree to disagree, Christo. I think the world size is perfect. I don't want to wander across the landscape for a half hour to get to the next town. Well, actually I do, but the upside to it being smaller is that every little bit is consistently detailed. Otherwise you'll get a very repretitive and therefore non-immersive visual quality. I mean, tons of buildings are still even "boarded up," which always takes from the immersion for me a bit so if anything it should be smaller. Think of Daggerfall. That shit was lame.

Also I think the "Hardcore Mode," while still pretty easy, is damn cool because of needing to eat food and drink water. That's a step in the right direction for sure.

that's cool. what you're saying about the boringess of an empty plain, i agree. which is why im pretty convinced 1st person fallout is a bad idea in the first place. in the old fallouts, when you traveled from place to place you'd watch a tiny cursor move on a grim worldmap, with occasional random encounters. it wasn't perfect, but i think that presentation made a lot more sense.
anyway, i never played daggerfall. but i agree that the inexplicable locked houses are annoying

Mount & Blade had a pretty rudimentary system but it was workable and recognizable as sword-play. in that system, you moved the mouse to the right, left, bottom or top of the screen to indicate the direction of weapon movement, then you clicked the left or right mouse buttons to choose attack or defend. you had to move the weapon to the corresponding position of attack in order to block it, and you had to hold down & release the attack button to cock the weapon back & then swing. this allowed you to do things like feint, riposte or stop-thrust, and the system also modeled momentum so for example, moving into a thrust caused more damage.
a more accurate system would probably model more avenues of attack and defense. one of the fundamentals of fencing is a concept called the "circle of blood", whereby the range of motion of a fencer is imagined as a rough hemisphere corresponding to their arm length + the length of the weapon. within that hemisphere are several possible movements (this would be easier with pictures) but essentially any sword movement is going to come from one of roughly 9 directions (obviously with a huge degree of variation). a more complex system might map these movements to 9 buttons or combination of buttons, for example
QWE
ASD
ZXC

Soul Calibur and other fighting games also model swordplay. they generally use a simpler button scheme - in soul calibur (which i play on playstation consoles), Triangle produces a vertical attack, Square a horizontal, and Circle a kick. combinations of buttons + movement of the joystick produces different movesets, from gigantic slashes to quick thrusts. this might sound
"game-y", but the varieties of strategies possible and the reflexes required offer an experience not dissimilar to real swordplay. an ideal fencing game might combine the mount & blade style of mapping attack/parry direction to key/mouse/joystick direction, but also feature more specific "moves" which could be pulled off like in a fighting game.

there is an old PC game called Die by the Sword that's meant to be a sword fighting simulation but it's pretty shitty and inaccurate.
Remember this post? well they made the game i was descirinbing (kind of), it's kinda fun

Given how much of an influence Evangelion has had on me, I don't think it'd be fair to watch Rebuild 3+1 while sober. I need to take some mescaline first or something.

i firmly believe the first noob to become a pothead will be Dooglord

(just kidding doog i know how much you HATE weed, especially based on my opinion entry!!)

for real though it’ll prob be plob, i could see it appealing to future him if he maintains this energy and eventually wants to slow down a bit, also he just comes across as the sorta dude who will be into being blazed and consuming loads of media based on his quirky interests that he comes across
