It's a cartoonishly inefficient implementation of an already existing system disguised under the fad of decentralization.

That's... That's a pretty apt way to put it, French Fry!

At first I was like "this is brilliant!," but then you think about it a bit more and it's just a slightly-more-efficient and less regulated method of what we already have. Instead of mining actual ore, it's a finite supply of a material that doesn't actually exist. So we're back to currency having value because we want it to have value, not because it has any worth.
