Laptop broke - need new laptop

Right now I'm looking at Lenovo Thinkpad E495:
https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops.../p/22TP2TEE495

Basically here are my requirements:
1) Fast processor
2) Decently-sized SSD (none of this 128 gb crap)
3) Sturdy & rugged
4) Cost-effective... I'm not really willing to spend much more than 600$

Here are the things that I don't care about or actively DON'T Want:
- No tablets or multi-use tablet/computers... they suck ass
- Don't care about the camera, microphone, etc
- Don't care about the weight or size (although smaller is generally better)
- I'm not going to do any serious gaming (that's what my desktop is for) but it should be able to run basic games like GOG.com games and shit like that

Basically this computer will be used for word processing, internet, recording, light gaming, watching movies and listening to music in bed, and reading. Not moderns games or anything else particularly demanding, but I keep a lot of tabs and documents open at once so it has to have a good processor and fast SSD.

I love the thinkpad style and I've had good luck with their computers in the past. Anybody have any recommendations or thoughts? or know someplace i can get it for cheaper?

Fuck Lenovo. Their laptops always end up falling apart. Literally falling apart. I've had 5 devices from them, and all of their devices broke on me.

huh, interesting. which models were they? I've had the opposite experiences, at least with their older computers, i owned a number of t400/t600 series and they were all incredibly sturdy. One time my dad dropped one from waist-height onto asphalt, and it barely chipped a corner of the case.

My current laptop is an IdeaPad Flex 14, that one is currently in the shops because the camera died, fan was noisy, plastic broke on the outer case, plastic had a large crack on the inner case BECAUSE of the outer case too. Lenovo fucks tried to convince us that this was MY fault. I picked it up one day, and heard a little "click!". That was the case snapping. Before that my last Lenovo was my brother's laptop, forgot which one that was but it was big and grey and it too started to break. My FIRST personal laptop was a Lenovo, albeit I dropped it a couple times and generally mistreated it but it still ended up falling apart. That one also had a problem with getting WAY too hot but that one hit the shitter because the plastic was cracking (in the EXACT same spot as my newest Lenovo, pretty weird). It got so bad that the lid was splitting down the middle and the hinges were worn out. My first personal device was my dad's Lenovo tablet, it died after 4 years. I still had a lot of memories with that tablet, it will be missed.

i think those folding laptop/tablet ideas are a bad idea in the first place, it just never works. There's no way to make it so its actually structurally sturdy. I do remember now, it seemed like some of the older thinkpads had issues with the way the hinges were constructed. It just seemed to be a common failure point for the device, but you also have to remember some of these computers are almost a decade old or older at this point. I don't know about the overall construction of the newer thinkpads but I haven't really heard many complaints so i assume it must be tolerable at least? I also definitely prefer that more ruggedized plastic they use over the shiny apple shit, but that's more an aesthetic preference, i'm not sure which one is actually harder to damage

Buying a computer used to be a big deal. Our family computer in 1998 would cost around 2000 pounds in todays money thats a lot for a middle low income household.
Although you got a lot of extras back then like scanners printers software etc.

6 actually, our family friends gave us one as a gift and it was broken, my dad fixed it and stuck a random fan in there but because of that fan, it would overheat and shut down whenever you decided to run a powerful application because the sensors didn't like that fan. It became so unbearable that I shelved it and had to switch. So not REALLY my fault but still another laptop which we had to send to the basement. That problem has also happened to other people but none of the generic fixes (reinstalling windows) worked.

Actually, I didn't get mad at all. I simply imagined myself pissing on a macbook, as this is the most level of attention they deserve. And you know what, it was enjoyable

Don't worry, I got you covered. It should only cost 590$.

Super glue the desktop onto the hand truck (at the plate that's touching the ground), duck tape the power outlet to the side of the hand truck and hook the desktop power into it, glue the monitor to wherever you want on the hand truck and BOOM! You got yourself a portable computer.

Specs of that Lenovo look good, but the screen quality is probably gonna be disappointing.

Pull that trigger (& don't piss on your new lappy unless it really deserves it)

by the way have you been drinking even more than usual because first your headphones and now your laptop? Helluva bender one imagines

The only bad thing about the newer models is the keyboard. The original Thinkpad keyboard is probably the best membrane keyboard out there, but the newer ones are just flat scissor switches.
