That’s an incredibly hard question to answer because there’s been so many weird experiences. I’ll list off a few that come to mind first:
- Had to explain what we were doing to police officers on multiple occasions. They always think it’s super cool once they find out, though. Most interesting encounter was my team filming out in a field and had the police called on us by an Amish family who thought we were legit murdering people.
- Once my team got the all clear from the police a younger Amish lad road up on his horse and said “Do you wanna see an Amish boy ride?” and then galloped off with his horse.
- Got a bug stuck my throat mid take and had to hold in coughing it out for several minutes in order to not ruin the shot; I then proceeded to cough for 5 minutes after the shot was over.
- Two actors I work frequently with are a couple and during a shoot one day one of the actors (with my permission) purposely ruined a take and proposed to the actress right there on the spot. They’ve been happily married a couple years now.
- We filmed a sex scene but it was on crazy blue-screen setup with a blue blow-up pool filled with red water (supposed to be blood) and blue-curtains hanging around. It was notable for how NOT weird it felt because everyone was casually joking and talking even though the actors were largely nude and we were in this crazy looking setup. There were lots of “birthing pool” jokes.
