hahaha. It sounded like bullshit to me. I just remembered him being really liberal, and seeing him sign onto LinkedIn clashed with the idea that he's a prepper in a bunker now. But I haven't spoken to him in probably 15 years so I was in no position to call it out.

Jon did you watch Dustin's new flick?

I just watched it. I don't think I've seen a new 3dmm movie since around 2005 or something and I've never watched one done in v3dmm. It was cool. Reminds me of John Woo's work. Really good eye for camera angles, movement, action, etc. If you were to replace everything with live action, it would be something out of a legitimate movie. It's neat that an OG like Dustin would create a new movie this many years later, in a climate where the software and community seem all but dead.

On the other hand, and this is no dig against Dustin, but simply my observations for the current state of 3dmm in general: I don't like all the mods and new tech. I guess I'm a traditionalist. I much preferred vanilla 3dmm. I realize these new additions, the smoother animation, better sfx, imported models, etc. are supposed to heighten the experience but, for me, it doesn't. 3dmm used to be a goofy kids' program and we pushed the boundaries while staying within the framework of the original software. This is how we ended up with the classics from Maltby, Pikios, Redwampa, Pozin, et al. The new movies, such as this one, are too good for 3dmm and not good enough to be taken seriously outside the community. I really don't mean to be negative and none of that is meant to detract from Dustin's work, because he did an amazing job, but I personally find the new program to be sort of joyless, whereas 20 years ago I would have killed for that functionality. Just the price of getting older and nostalgia, I suppose.

I hear you about the vanilla 3dmm. but it's just unrealistic to make everything out of shapes still rather than importing models when it's possible. no movie would ever get finished.

but yeah I think the aesthetic of the non-modded movies is somewhat better and more what I associate 3dmm with

Yeah, I dunno, man. I got pretty bored quickly and turned it off. Probably just watch DD for the 5th time since it's a masterpiece. Shame the audio levels on the YouTube version are shot.

I hate ppl who make "being a stoner" their entire persona. But I have NEVER met a person who smokes weed that I don't get along with. And I absolutely 100$ cannot say that about any other substance (even including alcohol)
