Windows 10 woes

My 3dmm is laggy and freezes constantly (on the first frame of a new scene or upon trying to “Pause” a movie mid-play.) it makes it next to impossible to use.

I’m using it full-screen btw. Not sure if that’s connected.

full-screen through v3dmm? have you tried it non-full-screen?

not sure I've ever heard of this problem

No, that's the other thing.... I forgot how to do it non-full screen? What do I need to do for that? I'll delete and reinstall if I have to, I don't care.

And yes I believe it's v3dmm.

Yes it's def v3dmm cus I have Doraemon and the n3dmm actors in here, I just checked. Also there isn't lag, I was wrong about that, just freezing. (It never "crashes" but I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del close it each time.)

Also I just quickly made a new 2-scene movie as a test and it "Froze up" again while I re-played it. Currently typing this post at a ridiculously low resolution where each letter is half an inch.

I wish there was a happy medium for running 3dmm on newer Windows... Because having it full window doesn't let me tab out regularly, which sucks, but having it in a tab/seperate window it always looks too small, and it's hard to focus or enjoy watch/making movies. Is there a way to just have a tab that's 2x or 3x the size of the small window I see where I have it as non-full screen?

there's a checkbox for Fullscreen in the Options menu of v3dmm, just toggle that to Off before you launch the movie. and/or try playing them in vanilla 3dmm instead of through v3dmm

well you could turn down your resolution when you use 3dmm. might even be some way to make that happen automatically when you launch it. but short of that, I don't think so.

Ok I wasn't launching it through v3dmm Manager I'm seeing now, I was just launching it through 3DMM.exe so I didn't even see any of those options origianlly.

I'll try this out again when I have some free time launching it through the manager and see if I'm still having all those issues.

are you still getting the mouse jumping bug in Windows 10? last I checked it's still there (cause of that horrendous fall creators update).

IDK about the program freezing, but this jumping bug is still a huge problem with me, and is the big reason for me not getting projects done.

I'm not sure, because I haven't tried making anything, I've just been trying to watch old movies.

I just know 3DMM became really crash-prone for me since I made this thread, so like... It's even worse than just the mouse jumping bug now, like totally unusable.

It really is kind of ridiculous to me that nobody has made a modern day 3dmm successor yet.

I believe so.

Ok so I'm still having the problems with the mouse jumping too. It's not a big deal for me cause I doubt I'll make anything new in 3dmm. But yeah it's still happening.

a year ago that was supposed to be fixed "in the next major release" of Windows 10 according to some shit Travis found. I dunno if there's been a "major update" since then or not but I wouldn't hold my breath for this ever being fixed at this point.

Okay. I have been considering on using a virtualbox for the sake of getting 3dmm to work. My problem with it is I have no idea how it works/how to install it/is it worth it/etc. I don't know where to start, or rather should I start at all.

I would also like to mention that if I do decide to use it and get it running, I would probably just use 3dmm with it, so this is where I am pondering if it's worth the effort.

You're in luck. I've just done it earlier today.

I tinkered with the settings a bit, but the default ones for Windows XP 32bit should do just fine. After installing the guest OS, make sure you install the guest additions. Oh and forget about Mouse Integration, that shit's gonna mess with moving 3dmm objects about. They're gonna end up outside of the scene. You have to turn off Mouse Integration, manually, every time you boot up your virtual machine. Unless there's a script/config for it that I'm not aware of.

Another caveat is, and it might just be the case with my machine (not flexing, but the desktop's a bloody beefcake, so...), the sound coming from 3DMM inside the VM can end up garbled at times, especially right after loading. Like there's not enough juice to process it. Might have something to do with my specs, or Virtualbox itself. Didn't have that problem on a Windows 98SE guest system, but then again, I ran it on Virtualbox 4.x or 5.x...

So yeah, absolutely worth it. Beats not having access to 3dmm, eh?

I could just send you the virtual machine file, if you want to go the extra lazy route. PM me

you can use one of two apps to make a window fullscreen (with non-blurry scaling as a bonus)

https://tanalin.com/en/projects/integer-scaler/
integerscaler which is free

or my preference:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/9...sless_Scaling/
lossless scaling which currently costs $4.99, but it has a free demo version that possibly is all you need. alternatively pm me if you want the full version
