There are a lot of threads that ought to be archived but aren't. and there are some pretty pointless threads that were pointlessly archived for no point

I don't see the point in archiving threads. Its better to leave them open so people can go back and discuss in that thread instead of making a new one.

I don't really plan to prune threads ever again since meaningful disk space limitations are kind of a thing of the past. I actually enough storage now to keep redundant database dumps backed up on the server for every month (going back 2 years).
