This is actually a great looking website. I like how you put the little art collage at the top. Looks nice.

No, they're right. This thread pisses me off. I was expecting to come here and click a link and freely browse a website, and instead its some video of a website with an annoying voice-over. You should have titled this thread "Check out this trailer I made for my website."

Did you miss the URL that was presented at the front of the video?

artistmodels.org

Feel free to click around, but you'll notice that you won't get far without registering (don't) because it's meant to be a private website.

tbh with you I barely even bothered to watch the video. I was just annoyed with the whole thing. from the title of this thread and skimming the video, I thought this was a personal website you had made for yourself.

it really messes with the system.

Do you think I'm asking for feedback on the voice over and my choice of music? Like really, is that what you think?

15 posts in and broken pencil is the only one who's mentioned anything about the website.

Okay well, I'll give you an honest opinion. The website looks alright, but also looks a bit dated to me. It honestly reminds me of myspace or something. It sort of reminds me of vkontakte, which is basically the Russian rip-off facebook site, basically it's facebook the way facebook was like 10 years ago before it had a chat. Every time I visit that site I'm like "GOD, this is such a piece of shit. I can't believe people actually still actively use this." But they certainly do. Russian people, at least.

It seems like this site is marketed towards a really niche market. It doesn't seem like art modeling is a very big industry (I could be wrong, I have no idea), so I'm wondering why anyone would really want to use this website instead of modelmayhem or something like that. You may as well just make a model website that competes with modelmayhem, and just goes all out, marketed to models of all kinds, not just art models.

It's cool that there's a community aspect of it, but like I said, I'm having a hard time picturing anyone being interested in this, but I also have no idea about this industry what-so-ever. Like what are people gonna talk about? How they feel sitting still for an hour at a time while people draw them? I'm not really sure... I mean you might be onto something here, but I'm not exactly sure what, yet. It seems like it would be a lot more useful to have a private chat system (obviously also a lot harder to implement..but maybe you already have this going?).

The design feels very empty towards the top, for me. Like I feel as if there should be a small banner, or a little button, or something. It really makes me feel like I'm looking at a website from 10 years ago, for some reason. It's black and white and kind of bland. There's nothing unique or experimental about it to me. And like I said, I'm having a bit of a problem understanding its purpose. It's honestly hard for me to think of things to say about this site, which might be why you're having a hard time getting decent replies here.

Also, what's going to keep random people like me from signing up for the website and just using it as an internet hangout? Or would you be fine with that?

Add an off topic and general sub forum. Seems like a good idea.

Yeah, a lot of the design could be improved. This is my first time doing an interactive website, so the php components aren't really styled at all.

Very true, it's actually marketed to an existing community of 300 or so people in the Los Angeles area who do art modeling full time. Some people hire from model mayhem, but models there are used to photography rates, and usually don't have the practice to hold good poses for very long.

The main purposes for this are basically
1) creating a detailed directory of places that hire models. Because there isn't one, someone who gets into art modeling basically has no idea who to contact, and it takes ages to individually build a solid list.

2) Creating a detailed directory of reliable experienced models with public calendars for the bookers. Bookers usually get their lists of models word of mouth from other bookers or professors. Even if nobody uses to socialize, it would still work as a successful directory. The calendar system was designed because the booking process is like playing minesweeper with the booker trying to find a day/time that you are available.

There's actually an active facebook group where people share photos, get dates covered, and talk about variety of subjects, but it's all in a single feed, so the information gets lost quickly. It needs an archive.

Yeah, it would look better at the top with something else there, I'll have to figure out what. I could probably space the links further apart.

There are three profile types "Artist", "Model", and "Booker." When this gets all set up with models I know (in a few weeks) I'll change it so that people will only be allowed to sign up as an "artist" and have to request to have it changed.
