Side scroller comp?

I've always seen the funnest and impressive compilations/group projects come from here.
I was thinking a good idea for a new one could be a side-scroller level.
First person would draw a level, then the next person would add on to it to the right and so on. No limits for the width/length, but restricted to 800 pixels tall, or something.

Would be even better if artists could choose to do layers and enemy sprites that were separate from the actual level, so that if the feeling strikes anyone, the whole thing could be assembled after we're finished to look and feel more like a game.

Would this be of any interest to anyone?

What if we made it into an actual game after the fact?

I was thinking of just putting it together as a flash animation, but if someone wants to make a game, yeah. I see no reason why not.

Why would you need Sony Vegas for this? Most of us just use Paint, which keeps the style fairly constant. Search the board for threads in the Art Gallery called "Posttting" and you'll see the things we've done before.

Here's one of my favourites. We all drew a small piece of the grid, making sure that the sides of our section matched up with adjacent sections that other people had drawn.

This is what we'd be doing here, except as a long left-to-right sidescroller.

No... I mean, original. Not stuff from existing games. Make your own level, then the next person has to add on to that level in their own way.
Try again?

Dude, did you even read my post? We hand-draw this stuff.

I swear I spend half my time nowadays trying to patiently explain to you how 3dmm.com works.

Broken Pencil, Bown is a complete ass, yes, however, you're not really getting it. What you did is not a side-scroller level. This is.
Except, I would suggest to you, and others making levels, that we don't put the sprites in the level. Put them separate so that later this can all be put together.

I probably won't start or even join. I'm a bad drawer, and I don' really want to work on this as my speciality is in sprites, and not drawing. Besides, I even fuck up when trying to draw a head (like I have a little line coming out of the end of the circle.

If you can make original sprites, then just take the time to make a level out of it. You don't HAVE to hand draw the whole thing.

And Bown, I'm talking about original sprites. If you want to make some sprites of your own for your potion of the level, do it, but don't put them IN the level.
