Looks to me like you pull the string and the stuff in the top (what the hell is that?) falls into the liquid. Not quite sure why you couldn't just tip it in yourself.

Also the string would make the trap door (assuming it is hinged) open the opposite side the arrow is indicating.

Unless where it meets the trap door is actually a pulley/corner and it then goes across the top to a release bolt of some sort.

And is this like.. to make tea? Or... what.

i'm assuming this is labelled as a cool idea because the stuff involved is cold, not because it is rad or awesome in any way.
