debbie does 3d

Building up my 3D portfolio for my university interview, applying for a CGI course down in england, anyway been learning 3D for just over a year or so

Working on this for my portfolio, a work in process but i threw out a quick render of the forecastle deck, got a list of things i want to do on that as it is but fairly happy with it so far.

Modelled this for a king kong style animation

Was doing this for a local movie at some point, unfinished since the project fell apart

Bonus:

Just threw that together but looks cool.

Yeah. Man, the ship/yacht is brilliant.

Edit: Also, I'm not clued up on the subject but all the crossbars on the Eiffel Tower must have taken you forever.

Edit2: Yeah, what Dan said.

would be nice to get some varying shots of that building with the almost top down perspective.

the boats my favourite though, despite how fucking painful the eiffel tower must have been

aha, the boat when it's finished should be the titanic, i pretty much have a week to make the entire thing before i leave for england so we'll see how that goes. The eiffel tower was painful but for ages i wanted to make it so the first time a project came around that was open enough to fit it in I just leapt at the chance. Took about 20 odd hours in the end, most of that was just lining up girder after girder. It was like boxing someone in on worms to the extreme.

I thought about selling it but I tend to be critical of my work and would want to go back and bugger about with it for a while and actually texture the thing properly, too busy for that for now, maybe in the summer.
On the plus, fuckin' nailed my university interview, gonna take maybe one more day of drinking and napping before getting back to work on my titanic.
Anyway, couple of extra renders, a better empire state shot (I wanted some A3 prints for my portfolio so I bumped up the settings and rendered off this bad boy, detail doesn't show much on here but eh, better angle at least), plus some in-progress shots of the titanic. And a bi-plane I made to stick in the background of an animation.

Definitely a lot to be done, but getting there.

Thanks for all the comments though, really gave a good boost when getting everything together.

Edit: there's also an animation that goes with that last one, I needed to show lip syncing so had the pilot singing to Hall and Oates, re-doing the background for it though, despite my intention to nap. Will post that later.

Another semester down, another wad of work complete, time to whore it out a bit before getting back to work.

This was for a project involving a ship leaving a destroyed earth, modelled after Serenity (the texturing is completely off obviously and there's some modelling that I'd redo if i got the chance, this one came down to just getting it done so I can move on to the rest of the project

For a whole new utopia

(Both were made fairly quickly just to fill their purpose but I'm quite happy with both, might develop them more over the summer, especcially the earth one).

Also: updated titanic model

(oh, i apparantly never uploaded a shot of the full model anyway)

And one or two quick "special effects" shots

The titanic is ridiculous. As for the first pic in the thread, had to do a double take.

really like these man. where do you get sources for dimensioning the titantic/eiffel tower? do you just try to model it based on 2d images or do you actually have plans with dimensions for random stuff? more interested from an engineering perspective, because of how simple you said the eiffel tower was to sketch up. it would be cool to throw together 3d models quickly, and a lot of the engineering design software i use takes way longer to create basic models

those are cool. I really don't have the patience for 3d. it's too bad.

btw I forgot what this thread was and I was expecting porn when I saw it, so I was a little disappointed.

A small (unpaid) project I'm doing for some steampunk thing in America that a friend pointed my way, sending off my work tonight. not likely to get any sleep.
(The modelling is all me but I downloaded the textures for it, texturing is not quite my strong point but I'm gonna work on that).

St James Tavern in London. The unfortunate remains of a university modelling project, first time I'd ever modeled in Maya so it turned out okay. To make the deadline I handed in a semi-finished version (more detail than most included but not as much as I wanted to add) then kept working on it. I got it finished, so I'm ultimately happy but a loss of data means this is the closest I have to a final render.
