The timing is perfect since, as darknowl on discord said, May 3rd makes 3.M. That could be 3dmm day.

Some of the left over graphics indicate that it originally shared a similar aesthetic as Creative Artist/Writer

Wow, incredible news! I remember Travis Wells doing all sorts of neat hacks to modify it even without the source back in the day.
I think he tried to get MS to open source it back then too. Glad to see it finally happened. Is that guy still around? |

Yep. They're me. Travis Wells was my 3DMM Alias, Foone Turing is my real name. I have been on my bullshit for SO LONG |
BTW I did a thread over on twitter talking about my plans going forward with the source.
https://twitter.com/Foone/status/1521904206197653504 TL;dr: 1. Collect more BRender versions, pester companies to get more BRender games open sourced. 2. Make a modernized-3DMM version. Minimal changes, just get it working on Windows 10/11, fix bugs that popped up because of changes in windows over the last 27 years. 3. Make a 3DMM But Better version. (I am, of course, calling it Movie Maker Plus). Drop the 256-color limitation, native video export, easy importing of new textures/objects, replace the rendering, new tools for making movies, etc. |
Are there any PBM file converters? A cursory google search brings up Portable BitMap as a format, but converters and GIMP can't open the ones included in the source?

Yeah I need to look into that. I think they're using their own format with the same extension. |
Some findings:
A note between Team Socrates members ![]() Beta 3D Word GUI ![]() Costume button? ![]() Beta render of theater ![]() Depth maps of backstage props ![]() ![]() TONY1.AVI, most likely a render test, but without proper depth maps and very low res Dev screenshots from Windows 3.1, because Windows 95 just simply wasn't a thing ![]() |
I've been trying to build the source on an old PC of mine, but I think some files may be incomplete or missing. Mainly, I can't build some of the .objs from the kauai directory. When I try to build kauai from the source I get a compile error (something about not being able to convert a short* to long*)
I'll keep chipping away at it. I have the debug flag on so I'd be curious to see what kind of debug goodies we might have access to (if any) |
