Anybody else care about VR here?

In less than 24 hours Oculus will be showcasing GTA SA vr, Project 4 (Boneworks 2), and Walking Dead Saints and Sinners 2 and I’m really excited about it. Vr is still pretty niche tho, so I wanna know if anybody else here is into vr?

pokerman 04-19-2022 11:38 PM

I want to try vr so badly tbh. I commonly get dreams about it. Even if its not as good as I want it to be, I at least want to try it out once.

I especially want to try it out on older games that really dont grab my attention anymore, such as doom 3 and half-life 2.

Doog sometimes uses VR in Gmod, and it's cool. It makes me mad that VR systems are so expensive, but at the same time I'm sort of glad we all aren't living through a Ready Player One situation. I wouldn't like using it over something simple like a good old PC.

Quest 2 is 300 dollars, cheaper than many other devices you can buy.

Shut up!

fuck no

Had a Rift S for like a year and a half
Sold it and got an Index
Index is pretty great

Quest is a mystery for how fucking cheap it is
Wish someone other than Facebook would make a competitor in that space

There’s a new device Pico Neo 3, it’s basically a Quest 2 clone directly competing with it that’ll be shipping world wide in a couple months I think, one thing tho is that it’s owned by TikTok.

I'd love to get into VR but the quality and amount of content really doesn't warrant the price in most cases. I've tried out other VR headsets so I know I'll enjoy it.

Guess I'm just waiting til the graphics improve and game numbers increase for the cost to be worth it. Plus, they're constantly improving right? I don't wanna fork out just for a better headset to release a week later

PizzaLuigi 04-20-2022 01:58 PM

I do like seeing the constant improvements in the vr scene flatscreen games have stagnated pretty much so it’s cool seeing something in gaming that hasn’t.

It's sort of a cyclical problem--
Headsets are expensive and games are few, so people don't buy them
People don't buy them, so there's no financial incentive for companies to produce more

The quest is doing a lot in this space but
The quality of quest-compatible games and PC-tethered games is night and fucking day and that gap is going to need to close a bit more before things really take off

Better headsets are.... rare.
Like, good headsets come out all the time that have insane features, but they're like, professional grade, so in the several thousands of dollars

When you get into actual consumer range of like $500-1000, the features are all negligibly different-- the index is still kind of the best buy for PC VR

e:
that said, I think they announced the Quest 2 like less than a month after I got my Rift S

Quest gaming showcase is in an hour I think they’re gonna be closing that gap a bit more there. The fact that Stress Level Zeros next game is gonna be on the quest with gameplay the same as the pc version is already a step up, Resident Evil 4 vr and Walking Dead Saints and Sinners are already pretty great.

Lord Blazer 04-20-2022 04:14 PM

Oh damn I didn't know Stress Level Zero was showing a thing

Mountain King time baby woooo

Lord Blazer 04-20-2022 09:05 PM

Doog Lord 04-21-2022 02:47 AM

Sick!

French Fry 04-21-2022 04:35 AM

i played HL alyx it was pretty good. Boneworks sucked hard ass. Gun Club was fun for matrix moves. pavlov and vr chat made me never want to play VR in multiplayer ever again.

Plopilpy 04-21-2022 12:27 PM

3DMM VR

pokerman 04-21-2022 12:37 PM

Speaking of 3dmm vr. I'd be interested to play the gmod misty city map in vr. Dooglord actually did that with plop and I. I don't remember what he thought about it, but i'd have to assume it was pretty rad.

I got to say "I spent the day in Misty City". It was very fun and looked cool!
