This is the thread for Plopilpy, myself, and others to discuss and share material on legendary free software activist / singer-songwriter Richard Stallman.

Haha appropriately using the free trial version.

To be fair, his reaction here is justified. He had just given a 15-minute speech, with 3 more speeches to go. At the start, he asked "how many people here speak English?" and half the audience raised their hands, however just 15 minutes later they realized they couldn't really understand English as well as they'd hoped. He spoke Spanish, but not Portuguese. That not only meant he couldn't continue the speech properly but that what he had just said was understood by only 3 people of the audience. He even asked to not be filmed because he was in distress, but the audience members kept filming.

He's also socially awkward, as some people report.

to either
A) walk off stage
or even better
B) briefly catch ppl up on whats been said

FOSS is really nice. I think in time, we will have implemented our own solutions for the most popular proprietary software. We already have open alternatives for industry products like Adobe, so the more they can attack with that, the better.

But it's also a bit of a double edged sword. Try going 100% libre on a Linux install and you'll quickly lose your mind from poorly maintained packages. Some people are deep into it as a "practice what you preach" kind of mentality, but to the average user, its a matter of usable and unusable.

For someone like Stallman, who hardly uses a graphical interface, FOSS is perfect. He never needs to update because he has full access to the source code, any changes he wants to make to his simple program suite, he can make himself. Now, that sounds utterly insane for the average user, and it is, but the idea is there for powerusers.
