3dmm.com - Saving Granny's Purse

Haha holy crap… so, I can’t help but revisit 3dmm.com every 7 months/a year to get a bit of nostalgia of my childhood & to just have a lurk on the recent happenings. What a surprise to see this old thing being posted up! As one of the posts above asked - yep, this was very much inspired as a loose parody of Saving Private Ryan. Around this time in the community war films were the popular thing to be doing from memory, I didn’t really have any real plan for the story of the film and where it was heading (I must have been like 12/13 years old when I made this - which is insane to watch with that knowledge) and it was definitely made coming as a direct influence from the hype of Jason Ruiz upcoming movie “The Bridge of Da Nang”. Was very much just en excuse to put together a random action montage using all the popular effects at the time and trying to add in my own take as well. Obviously huge influence from my good friend Mitch Warren who was always pushing the boundaries of action scenes/ creativity in 3dmm. Really awesome to revisit the community and to see something I made roughly 23 years ago being posted back up in 2021 - I truely feel the memory of community and my time spent here is something that will be in my heart and mind until the day I die, it shaped so much of my interests leading into adulthood. I’m so happy that this forum still exists. See you guys in another 12 months!

EDIT: just a follow up after re-watching it, have to give a special shout-out to Jimmy Pozin (RIP), I didn’t realise just how much the action scenes were influenced by his early action scenes. And to explain the ending title card, from memory I think I had animated another good 10 mins worth of storyline and my PC crashed and the data retrieval was only able to find a old version of the project - I think I had even reanimated the intro and overall made it way cooler, I definitely remember giving up on the film after losing the majority of it. Its a shame really, for my entire time in the 3dmm community I never actually made a full length film - only short things & collaborations. Also watching it back has made me realise just now incredible the proper films of that time actually were considering they were all made by kids/early teens. What an unreal hidden community of pure talent & creativity we had. I still remember the ending of Men In Seattle making me cry because I was so immersed by its story telling and characters. I really wish I could have made something upto the standards of the high end films of that era, they were & still are iconic.
