Question for JP (or anyone else who may know the answer!)

But I decided to watch Doom and The Awakening today for the first time in years and was curious to know what the story line for D3mons was going to be? If anyone knows, or the JP himself stumbles upon this post I'm curious to know.

JP 02-03-2012 04:50 PM

It was pretty ambitious, starting before the first one and ending after the second. It centered around Michael and his son. Michael got a better handle on his powers while his son had an Omen-Damien thing going on. Also there was more Mars back-story. I'd probably re-write it at this point, there was a lot going on and it might've been hard to follow had I released it when promised.
If I can get all my files and hardware back in order I may still string together what I had done. Some of the visuals were pretty neat.

(very pretty neat)*

Intresting, always wanted to see this movie, where you going to use more of the doom game elements? Like the iconic monsters from the games, or a storyline with uac hell holes?

JP 02-09-2012 09:17 PM

UAC played a pretty big role. Some new monsters made appearances. I'd say they were inspired by the Doom creatures rather than depicting any specific one. Not unlike the other movies.

I may make a new thread for this question: Have any vets gotten back into 3DMM at all? Is it difficult? I don't know if I could give it the patience I once did.

Will Mason 02-09-2012 09:49 PM

I always liked the fact that it took Doom and did something new and interesting with it. I've shown it to a friend of mine who is a huge Doom fan, and liked the idea that it was deeper than the game was. As for getting back into 3DMM? I'm not at all a vet as such, but I made some stuff back in the day (it was on Dragon Films so shows you how long ago it was) but I've not completed anything for around 10 years. Keep trying to do stuff, but never follow it through.

Gorosaurus 02-10-2012 04:01 AM

3DMM is not hard to get back into because of forgotten controls or anything, it's just difficult to write off the time spent making anything decent. The endless hours spent impressing a very small audience were easier to spend in our youth, I think.

Most of us 'vets' still have a project or two we are holding on to. I'd still be actively animating right now if this newest version of Windows didn't one day decide to stop supporting v3dmm.

It's fairly common for those who still have 3dmm to contribute to the chain movies going around.

Will Mason 02-10-2012 09:10 PM

I think the problem is that I always want to do something that is either waaay beyond my skill level, something that takes ages to animate or a project that would end up taking 8 months +. I just don't think i'd have the time these days, I'm practically married and got a job and other stuff to keep me busy! Back in the day I could spend a full quiet Sunday working on a movie!

JP 02-12-2012 03:40 PM

Right now I'm getting together some old PC hardware and software to load up 3dmm again. I'm hoping the CDs I used to archive my old work still function.

Seeing there is still some interest in the Doom movies has been uplifting, and I think the stuff we put together for D3 is worth getting out. I suppose it's something of a long shot that I would put it all together into a full movie at this point, but I'll let you know my thoughts in the next week or so.

Goro, if you get a chance e-mail me your current mailing address.

UPDATE: Got it.

I AM EXCITE.

JP 02-18-2012 03:36 PM

Files are not where I thought they were. Bummer. Still continuing to look.

JP 02-22-2012 04:29 PM

Found them. I'm going to try writing a new script and see what comes of it. Already have an outline in place.

Gorosaurus 02-23-2012 05:19 AM

I have a few files here and there. Let me know if you are aware of anything missing

JP 02-27-2012 06:47 PM

I think I've got everything. Right now I'm chopping everything up so I can make some sense of what I've got.

Bown 02-27-2012 07:07 PM

oh fuck, I only just saw this. Exciting stuff!

Gorosaurus 02-29-2012 04:54 AM

Man this inspires me to do the same. I might have to buy a new PC or dig up an old one to be able to

Compcat 02-29-2012 07:33 AM

This is pretty cool. I don't know if you're planning on adding to what you got at all, but if you are, I just need to say that you should definitely not expect to get a satisfying amount of comments. I personally promise to give a solid comment on whatever you decide to release though.

JP 02-29-2012 01:34 PM

I will keep that in mind, Compcat. Goro, I just dug up an old PC for mine.

I have several ideas. I'm making this primarily a writing exercise. I probably won't be doing any new detail-oriented 3dmm set pieces. And I'm considering going voice-less, like the original Doom, because going through that casting process now may complicate things.

Will Mason 02-29-2012 06:35 PM

Well I'll post a comment I'd be glad to see it! I can imagine voice less being quite cool or perhaps a long single monologue, but it aint my place to say! Just do it if you enjoy it, if you don't then don't! I reckon the casting process wouldn't be so bad for D3mons though, it would easily be the biggest 3DMM movie released in years so I'm sure the community (especially those who remember the Doom movies) would pitch in.

Phil Williamson 02-29-2012 06:43 PM

yeah I feel like voices is the one thing that the 3dmm side of the community is still active enough for
except, as always, female voices, of course

JP 08-28-2012 09:21 PM

Still working on this regularly, by the way. Even though it may be totally irrelevant at this point.

Rabid Dinosaur 08-28-2012 10:10 PM

Never!

Gorosaurus 08-29-2012 04:06 AM

Actually watched a bunch of D3 last night, in fact!

Breed 08-29-2012 05:39 AM

We believe in you, and want this to happen. :D

Will Mason 08-29-2012 10:32 PM

If you could pull this off I'd be so excited I think I'd shit everywhere.

Fredrick 08-29-2012 11:19 PM

Woah.

Am diggin' this surprise.
