Live 8

Watching the London concert on TV, been fairly amazing so far - Bill Gates introducing Dido had my jaw dropping. How've the other ones been, if anyone's watching them?

Klown 07-02-2005 03:37 PM

Watching London right now. I've been talking about this in the testing forum and defending it's ass on the SA forums. This is a fucking clever bit of politics, i'm cynical about the longer term effects though. Andrew Marr really put it all into context well with his "Whats so gr8 about g8 video"

Oh and I felt a little sad when the BBC cut away from REM to interview some drunken tools. Accidents happen I guess.

Thrik 07-02-2005 03:38 PM

I haven't really been watching it, though I've got Sky Plus recording it all so I can go through the better parts later and skip the trash.

Right now I'm stuck at home babysitting my brother, because somehow my parents got two VIP tickets for Live 8 London and are currently there having a blast.

Fuckers.

Klown 07-02-2005 03:39 PM

Just a heads up: BBC have fucked the sceduling so the coverage doesn't switch over to BBC1 at 4:15.

Kayl 07-02-2005 03:40 PM

1.5 million people in Philadelphia!

James Burgon 07-02-2005 03:43 PM

I've been on BBC2 all day and it's been showing it. I thought Muse was playing UK?

Klown 07-02-2005 04:07 PM

Will smith was hilarious. Every three seconds a child dies... Yea! 3 seconds.... *five minutes later* .. remember 3 seconds yea

Onto a load of artsy clicking videos and will smith leadings clicks.

Kayl 07-02-2005 04:10 PM

Something's up with Travis' mike.

Klown 07-02-2005 04:15 PM

I think it's the excessive amount of suck radiating from the band which is causing their mics to malfunction.

Maggot Corpse 07-02-2005 04:17 PM

No way man I thought Will Smith came across really well... A great speech, and I have a lot more respect for the fresh prince now.

Kayl 07-02-2005 04:19 PM

I've always quite liked Will Smith, to be honest. I was happy to hear he was presenting the Philadephia concert.

Klown 07-02-2005 04:19 PM

"3 seconds.... yeeeeah.. every three... seconds... yeeaaaah.." He's not really the kind of person I expect to deliver such speeches.

Will B-R 07-02-2005 05:26 PM

Pissed off with the interviews, and they cut away from Muse! To show keane and their silly fat frontman.

WTF

Great cause, but nothing to great on the UK stage, yet.

Klown 07-02-2005 05:28 PM

The who then Pink floyd and finishing with Mccartney makes me WET thinking about it.

James Burgon 07-02-2005 05:34 PM

lol @ Paul Mcartney bouncing to Drop It Like It's Hot.

Are they allowed to swear at this time? I feel BBC will be getting a few letters.

HAHA @ David Beckham dressed like James Dean. What a dork.

Darren Palumbo 07-02-2005 05:35 PM

edit: wrong window

Will B-R 07-02-2005 05:37 PM

Normaly BBC are all "sorry, sorry" but they don't seem to give a crap today.

And Paul seems to be down with the kids.

I thought the UK's been brill so far, bar a couple of acts, and I rather liked Keane's silly fat frontman.

Klown 07-02-2005 05:41 PM

Snoop Dogg is swearing his head off before the 9pm watershed. I await the apology after the six o'clock news tomorrow. Bonus points for Coked up Robbie Williams asking about fucking Fern Cotton.

James Burgon 07-02-2005 05:44 PM

Hahaha, he wasn't the only person who swore though. So did Green Day, cause they're rebels.

Klown 07-02-2005 05:46 PM

Yeah but Green day didn't say motherfucker and nigger about 100 times in their set. I can't wait till ofcom attempt to fine them for each swear word without kicking up a media shitstorm.

Damage Jackal 07-02-2005 05:53 PM

Who cares about Live 8, Australia and England just tied the cricket!!!!

Getysburg 07-02-2005 05:54 PM

You can't have a live aid without Bob Dylan, cos' noone likes him. But they have to admit hes the creater of free lyrics and so represents freedom to some degree, especially with, 'Blowin' in the wind.'

Demented Ferret 07-02-2005 05:54 PM

Hahaha, - 'YO' SAAY MA NAME - MAKE SOM MOTHER FUCKIN NOISEE!!!'.

Brilliant - I can't wait for the formal apology.

Demented Ferret 07-02-2005 05:56 PM

Oops! There goes another one.

Damage Jackal 07-02-2005 05:59 PM

Yeah. Australia had them dead in the water at 5/33, but then just failed to land the last blow. The wicketkeeper and Collingwood put on 100 odd runs for the sixth wicket. It was the most boring one day cricket I'd ever watched. The last couple of overs were interesting though.

Klown 07-02-2005 06:03 PM

This Razorwhatever guy is awesome.

Maggot Corpse 07-02-2005 06:10 PM

Yeah Razorlight were fucking great... I swear they never used to be good. I have always heard of them but thought they sucked, after watching that great performance I might check the band out properly...

He was just like iggy, man fuck yeah, I liked the quiet bit.

Klown 07-02-2005 06:14 PM

Madonna kissed that hot girl who looked dead in a photo. SEXY

Demented Ferret 07-02-2005 06:16 PM

Interracial Lesbians. Awesome.

Klown 07-02-2005 06:18 PM

Madonna is pretty fucking awesome.

Kayl 07-02-2005 06:19 PM

And wants to know if London is fucking ready. Three for three!
This choir's pretty damn amazing actually.

Klown 07-02-2005 06:22 PM

This is an amazing concert. I hope to god somebody is capturing it.

Kayl 07-02-2005 06:39 PM

5 billion people watching worldwide. Good Lord.

Pogo 07-02-2005 06:48 PM

Madonna was pretty awesome, although I laughed quite a bit when she COMPLETELY missed the high note at the end of Ray Of Light. even though the song had been transposed down several notes.

Demented Ferret 07-02-2005 06:49 PM

Y...Isn't there only 6 billion ANYWAY? Christ.

And I just realised that the camera man doing the pans of the stage must feel really fucking lucky - he's miles ahead of the front of the crowd.

Kayl 07-02-2005 06:54 PM

Snow Patrol join Snoop Dogg and Ms Dynamite to make 3 shitty/boring acts. Not a bad tally at all.

6.6 Billionish. 5.5 Billion have ability to watch it. I doubt 5 are watching.

Is it just me or are the Killers tone-deaf?

Demented Ferret 07-02-2005 07:02 PM

Yeah, they're not doing a good job at all.

Klown 07-02-2005 07:28 PM

Was Peter Kay totally drunk then or is he just slow in the head?

Will B-R 07-02-2005 07:31 PM

A bit of both.

Griffon 07-02-2005 07:35 PM

I haven't been at all impressed by the London gig so far, the only bands that are playing there that I have any interest in are The Who and Pink Floyd. And they're on at the end.

I don't like him, or most of The Beatles' stuff. It just doesn't appeal to me.

Breed 07-02-2005 07:42 PM

I DON'T LIKE THIS

Fingers 07-02-2005 07:45 PM

I should be watching this, but I'm not. However, I can hear it from next door, so meh.

Is this on at any other time, or just today?

Breed 07-02-2005 07:47 PM

from what I'm seeing just right now, but also from what I'm seeing YOU AREN'T MISSING MUCH.

Griffon 07-02-2005 07:47 PM

Just today, it's live. But the BBC will probably repeat it at some point in the week.

Klown 07-02-2005 07:47 PM

Just today. Currently shit is playing but earlier it was very, very good. It'll pick up shortly though.

Pogo 07-02-2005 07:49 PM

From all the "Absolutely fantastic" remarks regarding the Scissor Sisters I wonder if the presenters are listning to the same concert as us.

Fingers 07-02-2005 07:49 PM

I wonder if The Who, Paul McCartney and Pink Floyd are still able to play music, considering they are long since retired.

Breed 07-02-2005 07:50 PM

what is coming up besides McCartney Pink and Who?

Robert Domke 07-02-2005 07:51 PM

No Techno, uhh....this sucks...

Klown 07-02-2005 07:57 PM

Duuurrrr 26 artists in one concert out of the EIGHT is pretty good last time I checked.

Breed 07-02-2005 07:58 PM

what do you want from me? a kiss?

Klown 07-02-2005 07:59 PM

Not to make really, really stupid comments.

Moscow's lineup was kind of sparse. Agata Kristi is pretty cool, though.

Klown 07-02-2005 09:23 PM

Love him or hate him: Robbie sure is a brilliant showman. I enjoyed that set. Onward to the big three!

Pogo 07-02-2005 09:33 PM

I propose that Peter Kay should never be allowed within a 42 mile radius of a stage or recording studio ever again.

Demented Ferret 07-02-2005 09:34 PM

Agreed.

And FUCKING FINALLY.

Digital Taco 07-02-2005 09:36 PM

MUCH APPLAUSE FOR PINK FLOYD.

Klown 07-02-2005 10:28 PM

That was the most incredible thing i've seen in my life. They are all together and they even mentioned Syd. I'm in total shock. 24 years too long boys.

Demented Ferret 07-02-2005 10:30 PM

Today has been. Woah - yeah.

Never thought I'd be that taken in by something on TV.
