Life on other planets...

Actually it's a meteorite, but still, this seems like pretty serious stuff.

Wow! This is extremely compelling stuff. I'm really looking forward to the reaction of the scientific community. This could be huge.

I love how every time something like this comes about, the asshole, hands-over-their eyes christians yell "la la la" and regurgitate bible quotes in the face of proof, rather than adapt their understanding of the universe. Then there are the asshole atheists who feel it's their duty to tell anyone of faith how stupid they are for being religious, when they're the same cocks who would bitch when christians force their points of view on them. Whatever this is, it's interesting as hell, and it'll be cool to see what we can glean from it.

It's a bunk story. Journal of Cosmology isn't credible, apparently. And the only major news source to publish this story is Fox News. Just search around the web. The story isn't anywhere.

Don't let it get you down though:
Milky Way home to 50 billion planets
and the latest issue of Astronomy estimates optimistically that we'll find life on other planets by 2050,... that is, just to know where aliens are and that they're more than bacteria. No pictures of aliens in this lifetime, though.

IMO, the alien bacteria article was written by a proponent of the, "life came here on a meteor" theory, which explains the origins of life on earth but not the origin of life period. Nobody who supports that theory ever raises the question. It's a very subtle nod to a God cause. God created the first life and sent it to Earth on an asteroid. Duh.

Ugh, I was afraid of this when I clicked the 1996 lookin' page in the op... But I'm an optimist first and a skeptic second.

Bummer. I wonder if this "Richard B. Hoover" is a legit scientist, or whether he actually made this. He seems legit, unless that site is bogus too. But I mean, it's hard to fudge the facts on such a specific title like that right? So are they lying or are his positions and accomplishments not as awesome as they sound?

Edit: Okay, nevermind, he's claimed this more than once apparently: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_B._Hoover
