New Board Suggestion Box Thread

Please use this thread to post suggestions and change requests for the site.

As much as I'd like to avoid re-making past mistakes, I've again re-opened the site while it is still in a "work in progress" state. However, I'm hoping this time I can use this to my advantage, and get some feedback from you guys before I start wasting any more time on development. Basically, you can help me get it right the first time so I don't feel like I need to go back and do it over...

So, I'm looking to hear what you think of the new movies/reviews/mods sections, how you like the forum organizations, and the general look of the layout in general. I'm not committed to ANYTHING right now, and currently am planning to still change a whole lot, so you're feedback will lead me in the right direction.

I'll try and monitor this thread as often as I can, and answer any questions you may have. Site updates will be announced officially in the site announcements forum.

Thanks.

Umm, I can't help but notice grammatical errors in anything I read (not that my grammar is perfect), so I hope you won't think me too pedantic for pointing these out...

That should read your and other directors’.

No apostrophe, it's plural. You should probably just change the word. :p

There shouldn’t be a comma after 'rapscallions' or ‘trolls’.

So yeah, that's my input.

Can you make it so that inside of a forum you can see the number of pages of a thread, and so be able to click the page number? Because now you have to click the title and go to the first post.

Which is kind of annoying.

Space Goat 12-04-2005 12:27 AM

I never thought I'd see the day when "Tomb" would be the one giving me grammar lessons.

yeah...how many pages do you think it should have links to before it goes "..." ?

James McCloud 12-04-2005 12:30 AM

Just three I would imagine. What with the new default post per page value being high, it wouldn't be that often that the number of replies for one thread would go that high.

Digital Taco 12-04-2005 12:31 AM

5!!!!!

James McCloud 12-04-2005 12:35 AM

Also, I think you should stop the board from making the custom profile field "Location" appear by every post, that or at least cap the amount you can put in to something reasonable.

Are you proud of me?? :)

Way to not answer me on AIM all night, by the way. All I wanted was to thank you privately for all the work you must've done for this new board...

Rule 4.3:
It is recommended that you use Travis Well's script (LINK) to do this for you.

Problem 1: The link is no worky. Lemme put it up on v3dmm.com before you fix it though, it's a much faster server.

Problem 2: My name is "Travis Wells", not "Travis Well". So it should be:

It is recommended that you use Travis Wells' script (http://v3dmm.com/imlog/) to do this for you.

Digital Taco 12-04-2005 12:45 AM

more like travis NOTWELL :rolleyes

Oh God. Way To Reset My Ignore List Goat You Bastard.

Damage Jackal 12-04-2005 12:51 AM

....And way to make it so we're not allowed to post in all caps. Seriously, change that shit. CHANGE IT.

Lyntan 12-04-2005 12:57 AM

The sigs look dumb too, they're too small. Are you planning on changing the size requirement, Goat? Avatars could probably go up to 100x100, too.

Salter 12-04-2005 01:02 AM

I generally like the improvements, but we should have the message icons on!

Shaun 12-04-2005 01:04 AM

1. Put flags under peoples' names to show where they are from. I remember you saying you were going to do that anyway.
2. Bring back the top posters list.

Damage Jackal 12-04-2005 01:14 AM

Hot hint: You can arrange the Members List by Post Count by simply clicking the Posts column.

Shaun 12-04-2005 01:17 AM

oh.

Damage Jackal 12-04-2005 01:18 AM

Yeah. It still doesn't have the odd prestige of the Top 15 Posters though.

Lord Blazer 12-04-2005 01:19 AM

Make it save cookies?
Up the maximum posts per page option
Flags rather thanLocation field
Eliminate 10 char cap
Smilies
Up the size on sigs. When they end up even with the avatar, it's weird.

Damage Jackal 12-04-2005 01:20 AM

Ooh, can you make it so the spoilers appear when you hover the mouse over them?

Slime 12-04-2005 01:21 AM

1) Doesn't it seem that the Movie Showcase thing should show the latest BIG movie? Like, we can go to any 3dmm site to get a bunch of old movies, and it seems weird that 1 random old movie is deemed so important that it is put on the FRONT PAGE of the COMMUNITY website, around the area that all boards would put a current news-event from the community or something?
Like, it just seems obvious that it should be the latest BIG NEW MOVIE that goes there, to help hype it up and all. It would get people into the latest movies more too...
I know that personally, I NEVER watch 3dmm movies, but when I saw the movie showcase I thought to myself "Hmm, maybe Ill start watching whatever new movie is put in the movie showcase."
Then I saw that it was in fact OLD movies being put in the showcase, which made me decide not to.

2) Cookies that work! I have to log in each time I come here, even if its only a few minutes later!

Salter 12-04-2005 01:23 AM

It's automatically showcasing the most recently added movie. We're just working on adding a bunch of old ones to the database.
PS. What's with the score in the movie database?

Lord Blazer 12-04-2005 01:25 AM

Oh, inquiry:

What the fuck happens when a film fest rolls around?

If the person running the fest debuts the film, it'll be recorded as their release, not the director's.
