headphones on sale at amazon
the hd-280's have got the best performance to price ratio. get those unless you don't mind spending hundreds of dollars.
I can't see why you're including the AKGs with the other two. How much do you want to spend, exactly? And yeah, I'd take them Sennheisers over the Sony phones any day, they're definitely worth the money.

Sony MDR-V6s rock.
When I was looking for headphones, I just read tons of reviews from both regular users and audio fanatics, and it was between the Sennheisers and the MDR-V6, and I went with the MDR, cause from what I saw, they were pretty much just as good but for a cheaper price. I'm glad I chose them, because I doubt I could notice the more expensive headphones being any better, and they're comfy. I wear them for really long periods at a time, and when I take them off my ears are all sweaty, hahah, but there's no discomfort. Those Sennheisers look like they've got a little more padding. Are they $30 better? That's up to you. When I was buying, I decided they weren't. Then again, I'm not super picky, and this was my first good pair of headphones. I'd appreciate it if you would stop looking at Cade when I'm talking to you. |
The list is in an email I got from Amazon about headphones on sale. I haven't heard of any of them but I wanted to know if it's too good a deal to pass up.
God bless Amazon for actually doing advertising right |
I don't think there's actually a sale on any of those, unless maybe you got a promo code you enter? Cause the price on there is the price I paid.
can't say i'm sure about the others, but the hd280's have been $100 on amazon for a while. i've seen them go for $60-$70 when actually on sale.

Amazon lied to me!!
all i'm saying is that i fucking love my AKGs.
I wish there was a place where I could TEST THESE
The AKG's are amazing. They weigh 7 lbs, but only 2 lbs when shipping.

So what kind of headphones should I get? I want very comfortable, good frequency response, up to $500 but hopefully not that high. I think $200-300 is closer to something I'd like to spend. Recommendations don't have to come from this thread. I will primarily use them for music making. Good bass response is important too.

I'm partial to Audio Technica.
I own a pair of these and love them: http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica...41503&sr =8-2 These are the step up: http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica...41503&sr =8-1 If you're not concerned about isolation, people say these are somewhere in the middle: http://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATH-A...41503&sr =8-6 |

Actually, the first AKGs that I listed - I think I will have to pass on them. I was pretty interested in them until I realized they have velvet ear pieces. I hate the feel of velvet. I really, really hate it. I know a bunch of other people are the same way. I could never wear those on my head.
I lied. I bought them. I'm so excited. I can't wait.
Glad you avoided sennheiser.
yeah I've got AKG's. fucking amazing and they were half price. Best headphones I've ever had
They are on my head right now. Listening to some of my favorite CDs and comparing them with a coworker's headphones. Will report back.
These are definitely different than anything I've ever owned. The sound almost sounds flat until you realize it's not doing any of the boosting that normal headphones do. And you can definitely hear a lot of details.
