Attention 3dmmer Vanouverianssis...is.
All two of you.
I'm moving to Vancouver with my girlfriend in August, mainly cause she's going to VADA for the full time dramatic arts program, and so I can get out of this tiny town and work on filmsets. I know some people who have been there, and a couple people who live there still, so I've heard lots of things about the safe areas, and the slums, and where to not be and where to go and what to touch and what not to touch and etc. Her school is on Water St., so we're looking for a downtown loft as close to that as possible. We are looking at places further away too, since it is obviously cheaper, but the extra $200-$300 a month ain't bad to live in the heart of Gastown. And we're simple people, so a studio apartment is fine for us. ANYWAYS: Advice? Friendly thoughts? Sex? |
I'm actually planning to go to Vancouver for six months doing work and travel with a buddy in the nearer future. Not 100% sure though.
|
how can you afford to live there
that is my question |
Working full time, beybeh. Saving money is easy.
Also my girlfriend is aboriginal and is getting funding to go to school, which includes a living expense. Also, $1200 a month isn't that bad for two people. I can easily make $600 in a month, can't you? |
yea but I also need to eat
also fun there is expensive even if your girlfriend is a wagon burner but your from toronto right? or is it thunder bay I can never remember |

....bahahahahh |
Thunder Bay.
And I can't say I've heard that term before... |
Even $1200 a month won't get up much more than a large closet in Van City. But good luck man. It's a pretty nice town...mostly.
|
Yeah, I am looking at this realistically. As of this moment, there are several available apartments in Gastown for $1100-1300, utilities included, for a 450-500sqft studios. I realize the closer I get to the heart of it all, the smaller the place and the bigger the cost.
Right now I'm eyeing up the Kitsalano area. Some good priced 1bedrooms there, and not a far transit ride to downtown. It's not a permanent residence, and will probably be only for the school yerm/1year lease. At that point, career depending, we will bail back home or continue life in Vancouver at a much better priced location. |
I am sorry if I offended you by callin your gf a wagon burner squaw
|
Naw dude, I hate bogans too.
|
You should hang out with Crabb and take all of his hats.
|
And steal his weed.

A friend of mine just moved to Vancouver with his girlfriend because she got into a make-up program. She's dying to do make up in like zombie movies. I can't remember if it was VADA though.
Unfortunately I don't remember Vancouver geography that well. It's a very beautiful city, but there are some very sketchy areas, driving around Vancouver sucks ass (though I guess that's irrelevant for you), and the skytrain might be confusing due to a lack of signs such as...what station is next or which way is north and south? If you do end up smoking Vancouver pot, I recommend checking out the Pink Floyd laser show at the planetarium. Uhhh yeah, that's all I can think of for now. You should try to contact Spencer Crabb and party with him...something I never got to do when I was there. I don't remember if Royston or Dave Miles are still there as well. |
Also hang out with Realz and Pieguy.
|
Get ready to enjoy living there about 10 times better than any other flat boring shithole (the rest of Canada).
I live on the island, but I lived in the Vancouver area for 2 years. I wouldnt recommend getting a place right downtown. Its way too expensive and the people around there are fake, horribly vain, and just plain awful. You'll become one of them in no time. Either some hipster fag or a pink shirt wearing dude with a lame haircut. The shitty part about living there, if you like outdoors type activities is that theyre just so crowded. The outskirts of the Greater Vancouver area or smaller cities in southern BC or on the Island are much better. Also get ready to hate Asians. |
Yeah really, When I went to Metrotown once, almost every time I turned around I saw at least 10-15 Asians.
|
...WTF. So what?
|
well clearly nobody would ever want to live near too many people different from them duh rabid!
