The storytelling was full of ridiculous plot holes and inconsistencies (Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is not televised live. "Who is the third musketeer" is an absurdly easy final question. Etc.). The music was generally good, but some of it, like the MIA song, was horribly out of place. The acting I honestly thought was pretty bland, especially on the part of Dev Patel. Characters other than the main one were hardly developed at all (his brother just alternates between being a jackass and a decent human being whenever it's convenient to the plot - he never progresses one way or the other really. the girl is just a pretty face whose great appeal is never explained).
Of course, I thought it was a really good movie. I too was willing to overlook all that for the most part because it was a fun movie. But looked at objectively, without giving it bonus points for being "brave enough not to star white people," it has a lot of really big cinematic flaws. Certainly not the best picture of the year.
