Breed 09-26-2008 09:45 PM

STFU AND DL IT

Dominator Dan 09-26-2008 09:51 PM

ALREADY WATCHED it before you said that, and i forgot to comment
BUT I WILL NOW

AWESOME LITTLE MOVIE, haha when i noticed the scene slider was near the end and they hadn't even reached the house yet i was concerned it was gonna be a really unfulfilling ending, but it WORKED, but i wish it was a bit longer, maybe could have expand on the story, which i liked btw!

Aaron Haynes 09-26-2008 09:55 PM

Added 3 preview pics and a mirror (the mirror will work in about 10 minutes from this post's timestamp).

Ooh, this place is spooky.

I like it better than Violet Heights and a lot better than The Pool, though I did have a few small issues with it. It does everything it wants to do or needs to do, but there are some other things it could've done that would've elevated it from a very good movie to a great one. I'll address this further in my review.

Quick thoughts:
It's like Hansel and Gretel meets The Blair Witch Project meets Gorrilaz - Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head. It's rare when a movie's influences (or at least closest analogues) are so easy to identify, and yet it doesn't feel like just a pastiche. I also thought I felt some of the first scene from Return of the King in there.

The ending happens very fast. I was a little shocked seeing the scene slider come near the end before it seemed like the movie was ready to resolve itself. For a movie with a lot of pans and zooms and quiet, brooding music, the end is extraordinarily fast-paced in its revelations. At some level, this is a great idea. At another, you were missing the Mike Storch-esque final shot that would've really hammered it home.

Also, I'm not sure I entirely understand what happened. I'll give it a second watch before I review, though.

EDIT: oh

Aaron Haynes 09-26-2008 10:20 PM

I went and checked, and It's the usual Bevis offenders: bigtree.vxp, tree1.vxp, and ring.vxp.

Richard, PLEASE stop using these. There is an easy method to duplicate these expansions with new IDs and new shortnames. If you don't know how, ask someone and we'll do it for you.

I am just going to wait for vimeo.

Liam Brocklehurst 09-26-2008 10:43 PM

So THAT'S what you wanted the glasses for ;)

Really enjoyed this, the composition of the scenes were great and I enjoyed the voice acting

Richard Bevis 09-26-2008 11:12 PM

Oh man I meant to credit you Liam, I'm sorry I forgot. And also, very sorry for not checking the expansions again, that's something I'm gonna have to remember next time. I was out all evening so I couldn't do preview pictures etc etc, but thanks to everyone who dealt with that. And finally, thanks for comments.

Liam Brocklehurst 09-26-2008 11:36 PM

Don't worry 'bout it man, s'no problem :)

This is the type of film I look forward to most at a Film Fest: brief, beautiful, and unique. Very nicely done.

The scenery was very pretty, while the actual plot I failed to 100% understand. But overall it was a good movie. Nice work, Richie. :P

Slime 09-27-2008 01:53 AM

The scenery was very pretty. I really liked it.

I personally thought the narration was terrible. It sounded like it would if I was handed the script and recorded it on my 1st time through, with no emphasis on anything, just reading it to see what the words were. There was also a grammatical error or two that annoyed me.

The leaf in the opening gently lands on the water, and makes a sound like a BIG ROCK being thrown into water. I actually rewound when I heard the sound effect to see if I missed something. Also, the sound comes like 2 seconds after the leaf hits the water. WTF is that.

The ending was kinda unsatisfying, and the way the narrator says it almost sounds like he's cracking up at the ending. Its the combination of the way he says "I tried to explain what HAPPENED" along with the final words.

Overall, loved the scenery, disliked the story, hated the narration.

Air Rick 09-27-2008 04:46 AM

haha really? I did a few takes normally and I was told to make thing a little bit more emotional and slower.

Compcat 09-27-2008 05:54 AM

This is the first Bevis movie I've really actually liked. Scenery was great, I loved the whole mystical vibe it had going. It was pretty creepy, the idea of the old guy, although I would've liked if you picked a different actor for the old guy or just did a handmade model or something, I don't think Jerzy really looked the part. The story itself was ok, I didn't see the ending coming and that was pretty interesting, but I do agree with Aaron on the blair witch hansel and gretel thing, definitely not the most original plot ever. Eric could've done a much better job with the narration in my opinion (or maybe not, some people just aren't meant to be actors (I'm a good example)). The pans and pacing and all that were good and cool and stuff.

That's not the leaf it's summit happening off screen. I'm not a COMPLETE retard.

Atmosphere and visuals were awesome! As many have previously stated, storyline was good but a little choppy. I felt kind of cheated of any closure, in so many movies out there, the lack of closure works, but you didn’t manage to pull it off for some reason. But it was enjoyable and didn’t over extend its welcome. I was interested the entire time, and I personally thought the narration was fine!

Eric is one of the best voice actors 3dmm has ever had DAMMIT COMPCAT

Anyways, I really liked this movie! Typical Bevis fare, very beautiful, with a decent story. Not so sure what happened at the end (With Adam and the girl I mean), but it was still awesome

Aaron Haynes 09-27-2008 11:29 AM

"Some people just aren't cut out to be voice actors" is a long jump from "I didn't like his role in this movie", Compcat. Eric's been in like 50 other movies. COME HERE AND GET YOUR SLAP.

Compcat 09-27-2008 06:30 PM

Hey, I didn't know, I barely ever read movie credits, as far as I knew this was the first movie he voice acted in. Oh, i just noticed he is that Russoniello guy, he shouldn't have changed his username, right now its really common and unrecognizable, although I'm not blaming that on him, its my fault for not knowing, sorry. There. All cleared up.
