Wanna see my next short before it's released?

Since SuperDeluxe is going under (slowly but surely) I figured fuck it, I'll show you guys my latest short before it's uploaded to the site (or even totally done).

You might have seen the preview I posted before, but this is Guess Who. It stars Jonah Ray, Jay Johnson (Mr. Show, Sarah Silverman Program), and Randy and Jason Sklar (tons of shows and movies).

It's not as much of a comedy short as we do, this one works more as just a solid stand-alone short film. I might throw it out to a couple film festivals. This is the first cut, so your notes are appreciated.

Notch Johnson 05-13-2008 11:52 PM

haha the two aristocrat guys were great

where did you shoot this?

Dominator Dan 05-13-2008 11:53 PM

ahahah that was great, possibly my favourite thing from you
dunno about the 3dmm sound at the end though :cool

Rabid Dinosaur 05-14-2008 01:43 AM

Haha, that was good. You removed my favorite part from the preview, though ("BOOOOORED!").

Something I don't understand: there are still women standing after it's established that they're both looking for men.

Malibu. Some state-owned park I think. We had to get permits and insurance, which kind of sucked, but the scenery was worth it.

Thanks man. Funny thing about the 3dmm sound, I put it in knowing someone here would recognize it. I actually kind of enjoy putting little things like that in there that only you guys would laugh about. One day there will be a character in something I do named after someone from here.

I've gotten the note about that line enough today that I decided it'll go back in for the final cut. Also, the coninuity of the actualy game playing is totally wonky, I know. I'm debating whether I should bother to fix it or not. That whole segment is going to get cut down, it's a little slow.

Also, SuperDeluxe told us today we have to remove the head shot at the end. It doesn't make sense either, because we did a head shot at the end of almost every Freeloader's Guide episode. Oh well.

Feuyaer 05-14-2008 03:03 AM

Hahahahahaha holy shit dude that was amazing. I'm thinking this is my favorite thing from you...

Slime 05-14-2008 03:08 AM

Haha, this was good. That's so awesome that you have Jay Johnson acting in your stuff... he was fucking hilarious in Mr Show. Only thing I wish was different with this is that the headshot at the end needed blood or something, it looked too fake after the other death where we see blood, but you say you're removing it so I guess that doesn't matter

Cheezemaster 05-14-2008 05:06 AM

That mustache looked so fake!

But that's a damn great movie!

Tuna Hematoma 05-14-2008 05:16 AM

good stuff!

Qaz 05-15-2008 08:09 PM

That was pretty funny. I liked all olde tyme style of the aristocrats, and love the whole concept of the short.

Didn't really like the whole shirt tucking thing though.

And you HAVE TO keep the head shot it. The last shot of the short (both gun and camera) is the best part, just perfect. Fight the man and keep it in!

NearHi 05-15-2008 08:25 PM

Boo! It's Qaz!

McJuicy 05-15-2008 08:53 PM

I love the INDEED, DOOOO

Lizard 05-15-2008 09:42 PM

Haha, I loved that. Although, I smell 3dmm sound. It sounded like....Fall on Dirt?!

Also lol @ wind at the end.

Air Rick 05-15-2008 11:01 PM

hahah this was great. the only thing that I didn't like was the shirt tucking thing, only because he mentions the mom thing, and we've already heard about it and laughed about it:

"She's not dying!"

Other than that, loved the last shot, and I really really enjoyed this. Well written and best of luck with the final cut. Don't get why Super Deluxe would make you take it out? Fuck 'em.

Slime 05-15-2008 11:28 PM

I agree, the whole mom thing at the end was a bit overdone in my opinion.

That's what I mainly noticed, but that is just an extremely EXTREMELY heavily used sound in popular games and movies and everything. So I figured that wasn't the hidden sound. I'll have to watch again for Body Fall Dirt.

That's the point though... #1 promised mom that he would die for and protect #2, but #2 promised mom that he would make #1 tuck in his shirt when he's dying, making the mom sound like psycho bitch, so it's funny.

I'm kind of disturbed that they would force you to take out pretty much the funniest scene in the damn short. What are you going to do for the ending now?

Fisticles 05-19-2008 01:17 PM

HUUUUUUTTTT!

Super Chicken Girl 05-21-2008 01:10 AM

We don't have to lose the whole scene, just literally the moment when you see him fire the gun into Randy's head. It goes against network standards, but we're still fighting it. I'm working on the second cut now, I'll post it here when it's done.

Bobby Swisha 05-23-2008 12:44 AM

I didn't get the shit about tucking the shirt in.

Crazy Ivan 05-28-2008 03:50 PM

The new cut is online, and in HD quality no less (I think you have to watch it on vimeo's site to see it in HD).

There's also an alternate version where you don't see the headshot at the end, as per network request.

Crazy Ivan 09-24-2008 03:04 PM

For anyone who cares SuperDeluxe finally put this up today. They've got the censored version where you don't see Randy's head getting blown open. Feel free to send the link on to people or digg it.

Air Rick 09-24-2008 03:41 PM

haha I remember watching this a while back. I still think the stuff with the "death-bed" and the "shirt tucking" kind of slows it down for me, but the head-shot thing doesn't seem to be that killer whitewashed

sometime last year Turner Boradcasting (which owns both Adult Swim and SuperDeluxe) decided to make their online properties adhere to the company's tv standards. And according to either Turner or FCC rules, you can't have someone getting shot in the same frame as the gun that shot them. Weird, I know.

Air Rick 11-12-2008 04:29 PM

On a more related note, look what you started, Peter...

How do you get these actors? Do you go through their agent or do you actually have a personal inside track?

Air Rick 02-14-2009 02:20 PM

was this ever finalized? I sort of want to send it in to a few blogs that I read, who have been covering the news that there's supposed to be two movies made based on Candyland and Ouija. I want the world to see this and see how a short film about a board game is really the way to go.

Hell, even the "Minesweeper" Trailer on College Humor was good, but "The Deadliest Game" is a lot funnier.
