Regarding Spoilers

Don't post a new thread just to talk about a major event in a TV show. It does nothing other than possibly announce "OMG HOLY SHIT THIS IS THE CRAZY THING THAT HAPPENED" to people who aren't caught up on the series or missed it. It's easy to avoid a megathread until you're caught up, it's harder when someone makes a brand new thread announcing what happened in the first line, which you can see by hovering over the thread title.

From now on, keep discussions about events of shows in their respective threads, and there won't be any more arguments about spoilers.

If you want to specifically make an observation about a show that would derail the megathread ("Here's what I don't like about LOST" or whatever) that's fine, just be sure to mark it as including spoilers if you have them in the first post or whatever.

This rule is dumb as bricks. First of all, if you haven't seen the episode yet, don't click on the thread. Second of all, "possibly announcing that SOMETHING happened" isn't exactly a fucking spoiler. Reading the TITLE of that LOST thread doesn't spoil shit, and again if you haven't seen the episode, you certainly shouldn't post in it.

Furthermore, many shows don't have megathreads, so what, if I want to talk about something that happened in a show that doesn't have a megathread, I have to wait a week until everyone watches it? What the hell.

Why don't people just, y'know, DON'T READ THREADS UNLESS THEY'VE ACTUALLY SEEN THE EPISODE. DEAR LORD. WHAT A MAGICAL, MAGICAL CONCEPT.

Andres 04-26-2008 06:08 PM

Unblock me, for christ's sake.

Raz 04-26-2008 06:36 PM

I thought Lost had finished for a few weeks and didn't know there was a new episode on. That's why it caught me by surprise. I thought another one of the actors had a DUI or something.

My life is not ruined and I read the occasional spoiler anyway so it's no big deal. I just think to make a new thread about something and have a big reveal IN THE FIRST LINE is ridiculous. There's just no fucking need for anyone to do that. With megathreads, it's obvious not to go in unless you're up to date.

That was a clever euphemism for SPOILING THE TWIST IN ALL CAPS.

Hovering over the title of a thread reveals the first line, which is usually where people say "HOLY SHIT _____ HAPPENED."

Or you could make a discussion thread for that show, where everyone could post about it, which is what you'd be doing anyway. Just be mindful of people who might not have seen it yet, clearly mark what the thread is, and don't post the spoiler in the first line of the first post. Come on, this is some really basic courtesy you can do to not ruin the shows you like for people who haven't had a chance to see them yet.

Which is much easier to do when there's one thread they can identify and avoid.

This isn't just mod activism, every time we edit posts and close/merge threads it's because someone has come to us to request it because they accidentally read the spoiler or want to make sure they don't accidentally hover over the title and read it later.

Aaron Haynes 04-26-2008 07:07 PM

Seriously, Andres, I don't get why you're the one always fighting about this. You could use the tiniest amount of discretion and then everyone gets what they want, but you bitch and whine every single time.

Andres 04-26-2008 07:18 PM

None of those change the fact that you wouldn't have been spoiled if you had some discretion. This isn't exactly 'the gooks got Jack' we're talking about here.

I mean really now? Accidentally hovering over? That's not enough grounds. Maybe we shouldn't discuss the show because someone might accidentally click the thread.

Aaron Haynes 04-26-2008 07:28 PM

For fuck's sake, you don't have to go far out of your way to show some basic courtesy here. Talk about whatever the hell you want in the designated thread, create the designated thread if it doesn't exist, and don't spoil anything in the first line of the first post.

How is bitching about this worth your time? How?

Gorosaurus 04-26-2008 10:43 PM

Haha yeah that's really lame, Andres. It's pretty clear that Aaron is just saying to post spoilers in places that would take a few seconds to navigate to

Andres 04-26-2008 10:48 PM

still disagree, sorry.

it's not some big fucking issue, i just find it ridiculous that ever since tom breed is mod this totally overblown, 'double-spoiler tag every single thing that might in any way give you an idea of what happened' has taken hold.

i mean now its 'don't post outside a megathread'. i want to know who the fucking vaginas that bitch about spoilers so much that these ridiculous announcements have to be made are.

we've gone from 'trinity dies' to this fucking nonsense and i want to know who is that obsessed with tv/movies that this whiny shit has to be implemented. names plz.

For the record, I would have that checked out. You need to see a doctor.
