The Big Movie
The biggest, bestest goddamn joke movie you ever made.

Greetings. If you haven't been following this, allow me to explain: The Big Movie is a collaborative effort by the 3DMM community. It is essentially a sketch comedy made out of joke movies. Someone comes up with a premise, like "If the Knight looks at someone, they fly up into the ceiling", and everyone comes up with variations on it. The Big Movie takes about twelve different premises and compiles, overlaps, intertwines, and otherwise serves them up hot and fast.

There are 127 entries by 28 different people. They vary in length from five seconds to two minutes. They've been organized so that, hopefully, the logic behind each premise will be easy to follow and each new permutation will make sense.

If you HAVE been following this: More than half of the content in The Big Movie has never been seen before, so this is MUCH more than just a compilation. There are some major surprises to boot. Enjoy!

Thoughts on various episodes

3DMM characters make AMAZING Team Fortress models (and FUCK you for using Pikachu's Goodbye you Wound-Opener you ;_; )

Also, I want an MP3 of HMC'S Ghoul theme. Very DOS. I like.

The explosive Finale was fucking MIND BLOWING! MY MIND IS LIEK FUCKING BLOWN!

Put into order, the Alphabet stuff actually works pretty well.

I didn't much like Moments Earlier. I'm not sure if this is because the idea wasn't fully realised or just never appealed to me.

238-239 is the single greatest Default Fade of all time.

The Portal entries were both fucking genius.

Vlarion spoofs are fun.

As was Satanik.

My entry fucking sucked!

Double posts ALSO fucking suck, so I guess I'll pretend that I meant it and that this space is reserved for further comments

Hahaha, that kept me entertained for a while.

Slade 03-16-2008 05:30 PM

Ahahaha, this was like the funniest thing I've seen since Gameshow. Some of those entries made my jaw drop, others were simply mind-blowing in their concepts, some made me literally choke and die with laughter. Literally.

This was absolute top-notch, so many times I grinned or gasped or burst out laughing at the sheer wit behind the sketches. Incredible.

Slade 03-16-2008 05:30 PM

EDIT: Double post.

I'm not the biggest fan either. I picked the ones I thought best used the idea and messed with expectations, because a straightforward run of them is never very interesting.

Tuna Hematoma 03-16-2008 05:36 PM

haha, the "go ahead" charlie ones were the best

Bown 03-16-2008 06:02 PM

that was amazing

seriously, holy crap

Nice job reworking my T as well, that worked a lot better

Eric Burger 03-16-2008 06:16 PM

HMC's W and Portal entries were fucking BRILLIANT. Great great work on those.

The ending was so epic and breathtaking that I almost forgot I was watching a 3DMM movie. I'd love to see a full movie done with the "3DMM Universe" like that.

The old-timey At Rest was a nice unexpected surprise.

The TF2 skit was hilarious. The rollercoaster and constellation parts especially made me laugh.

And the 3DMM actor caricatures are so well drawn. Really captures the goofiness of 3DMM.

I just wish I had done a Totem Boo or a Frank Makes People.

Justin Wawrzonek 03-16-2008 06:29 PM

I can't even begin to say how awesome that movie was. Some of my favorites that I can think of off the top of my head were

The Portal Entries, All of the Test Subject Charlie ones, HMC's W entry, The Satanik Spoof, Team fortress 2 Spoof, and The Finale.

Of course I don't think there was one entry that wasn't entertaining. This was easily one of the best community movies ever made. I really hope that something else like this gets released in the future. Its things like this that keeps things fresh, and motivates people to work in 3dmm. Great job everyone!

Cubert 03-16-2008 06:30 PM

Hahahaha this was brilliant, so many genuine laugh-out-loud moments (and I'm not just saying it because I know the guy; but, for me, Stabby Joe's 1 Knight entry stole the show)

So yeah, a brilliant movie all round, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't dissapointed that my 'At Rest cops' were cut. But if they clashed with the "big set-up and ending" (which was awesome by the way), then fair is fair.

bl0ppin 03-16-2008 06:35 PM

To be honest, I loved this film, but it REALLY frustrates me. I can't help but feel that there was simply TOO MUCH to take in. I was OVERWHELMED by the amount of incredible ideas used here.

Highlights include:

Portal clips (seriously HMC, HOW THE HELL), Team Fortress 2 and Charlie Test Chambers

But as I say, despite finding it overwhelming, this movie was wonderful, hats off to everyone (Aaron in particular) for making this masterpiece.

Hahaha, it was pretty awesome. I think it actually gave me the idea for the finale. The big surprise for me was Eric Burger's 2001 spoof with At Rest -- that was downright brilliant. Your Knight with Pink Floyd - Eclipse was pretty amazing too, though the ending is a bit puzzling.

The sheer number of At Rest entries made me decide to make that into its own movie so I could cherry-pick just the ones I needed for progressing the "narrative" -- if I hadn't used the At Rest cops there, I definitely would have here, but there were so many smaller stories I was able to put together that too much more would've been overwhelming. I only used about three or four entries total from the original At Rest, leaving 30 exclusive to that movie. People really gravitated toward that one for some reason.

Haha, I hear you. The first compilation I tried was about ten times worse -- I found the only way it made any sense was to clump multiple entries of the same gag together, and only transition to another when something "nearby" felt similar.

Compiling this was one of the biggest editing challenges I've ever had. It took several restarts and a lot of re-watching and shuffling to create anything near coherency. I even created brand-new entries purely to bridge other entries together, so they'd flow more gradually (the second and fourth Knight movies were done about two days ago).

Even so, it is a bit overwhelming. If I wanted it to be significantly smoother, I'd have to cut off about eight minutes and make more interstitial entries, which I didn't want to do, cause that would make it too much of "my movie". I feel like it's as long as I could conceivably make it, and I did that so a large majority of the work done could be part of it.

Glad you enjoyed :)

I reckon in the future there should be a sequel to this, encorporating entirely new concepts. Or has someone already said that?

Yaay! It started as a much more truncated version of the Knight part, intended to be a single Knight entry, then I started doing the Totem Boo one, then I thought about how to create a sweeping finale that incorporates everything.

I strongly considered coming back after the credits with Eliza reactivating the satellite, getting the "go ahead", and asking "Yeah, where's Charlie?" at which point millions of Charlies would fall to the Earth like Rebirth/REDUX meteorites. While this would have been awesome, I'd finally gotten burned out on this project and decided to call it done.

Untrue! It also turned out to be really helpful in creating a brief "Frank vs. Timothy" storyline, where we see the two of them doing random stuff for a little while, coming into conflict, and then battling it out with Sandford's entry that follows. So you were indispensable.

I've been thinking about it while putting this one together -- it'd be real easy to come up with more, it's just a matter of taking a character, giving them a quirk or problem, and always ending with the same punchline.

Someone else needs to do the next one, though, I don't think I'm up for it again.

I was somewhat cheesed off that only 2 of my 5 made the final cut (I know its for time) but hey, atleast I'm somewhat flattered I helped subconsciously for the ending lol!

Plus good you listed the music as Ray Charles, quite obvious it was him but there are many covers of the song.

I liked the over merging of the little chains like the Knight/Kicking machine. Overall it was put together well with many laugh out loud moments.

(And that R was better than mine)
