First Day of The Rock Man

1 Attachment(s)
A spiritual sequel to 'The Room With No Windows'

Hope you enjoy.

i liked the music.
animation and direction lacked though.
Boring shots etc.

Plus if he's made of rock wouldn't he move really slow? Seemed a bit cartoony the way he just jumped about. Would've been nicer if he slowly trekked out of the cave as if every movement was effort.

The way he fell down the cliff was pretty lol too. Would've been nice if he slowly hit the rocks on the way down and you saw parts of him crumble and erode.

Cool...

reminded me a lot of the German film Das Rad:

I wanted it to be more to the point.

He becomes alive, is energetic so jumps up to see what the world is like.
And falls...

thats all really.

There is really a kind of subtle message to this but I didn't want to make it too dramatic but more sudden. I personally find it quite funny that this rock guy discovers the world and then just...falls, but then again I thought pigeon toes was hilarious.

Thanks for the advice :)

I liked this. I found the ending to be a little cartoony... sounds effects or something. That and I didn't realize it was water at the bottom. haha

Aaron Haynes 01-27-2008 06:57 PM

Nice. I liked this better than The Room With No Windows, your only other movie I've seen so far. It had a nice atmosphere to it.

The ending wasn't as strong as it could've been, after all that buildup, there's just not much to his death. He just kinda...falls? I'm not sure if he jumped, or it was part of his nature as a rock creature, or what he was feeling while watching the sunset once you consider how he ends up. It's interesting, but it doesn't really grab me.

I disagree with Burgon about the animation (apart from the ending, which was too quick and simplistic), I liked the weight and sounds of the character's movement in the cave. Glad someone got some use out of that cave model.

Ahhhh. Okay, I see what you were going for. But he kind of hangs around on the ledge, peacefully enjoying the view, then all of a sudden he falls, so I didn't feel like this came across. If he'd been more energetic etc. and we'd seen a closeup of him slipping, with bits of the ledge breaking away or something, it'd have worked better.

I really like your work. Keep it up.

Aaron Haynes 02-11-2008 08:12 AM

Yikes, this deserves a lot more replies.

Rabid Dinosaur 02-11-2008 08:35 AM

I have to say it wasn't as visually interesting as your other works. I did like the music a lot, though, and the premise is a very good one. Also, I agree with Aaron about the ending.
