SkullCandy Headphones

I need new heaphones. Does anybody own these? Are they any different to your standard DJ-style headphones? Has anybody tried them before?!

I'm only considering it because I head it has loads of bass and it folds nicely! But I need to know more

Klown 12-15-2007 04:10 PM

For the price they provide very, very poor sound quality. Avoid them.

You can't get good earbud headphones. Well, that depends on your definition of 'good', actually.

Klown 12-15-2007 05:02 PM

Actually you can. Yuin PK1/PK2 earbuds sound surprisingly good, but are a little costly. I'd still recommend a good IEM at that price level though.

Evil Ash 12-15-2007 05:06 PM

When I think of good headphones, I think of ones I'd wear while recording sound.
But yes, those earbuds are inredibly nice.

Klown 12-15-2007 05:10 PM

I was really talking about Happyjuice there, but yeah. I'd probably recommend getting some sennheiser 280s if you want to do recording etc Lizard. They are remarkably neutral.

Lizard, tell us what you're going to use these for/what qualities you most want from a headphone.

EDIT: And a budget

I bought this model, Sennheiser HD 555, about a year or so ago and it cost about 100 euros back then here in Finland. Very good sound, very comfortable and a reasonable price.

Bulva Sankari 12-15-2007 06:02 PM

BTW, 100 euros is about 70 pounds or so.

Klown 12-15-2007 06:16 PM

Sennheiser 555s are pretty fantastic for the price. I owned the 595s for two years, which are the 555+a bit more and they were really good headphones. I'm actually selling them now on ebay since i've upgraded to 650s.

I need some new headphones because my 20 year old AKG k240's are finally dead. I used them when i played drums to backing tracks, can you recommend me anything? thanks :)

VIVALAVOVA 12-15-2007 07:21 PM

get some wireless headphones. they are neat.

No don't they are expensive and not too good unless you are super rich.

Slime 12-15-2007 07:36 PM

I also need some headphones. I want to use them for my home recordings, and will hopefully, using them, achieve studio quality recordings. My budget is $10. Any recommendations?

edit: but I really am gonna get some good headphones, possibly what Bulva mentioned.

It's just that i used to have these.

And then I lost them on a train. So I'm looking for some good portable headphones. I don't mind if they're biggish ones, just not giant ones like the one Bulva posted. I'm looking for about a budget of £50/60. Just for listening and such on mp3 player.

Kale Monster 12-15-2007 10:28 PM

these are fairly good, too. AKG 271 studio headphones.

Lizard 12-15-2007 10:48 PM

Cool, but I'm not looking for studio headphones, or of that size/budget.

Or maybe you posted that just to say they're good headphones, I dont know.

On the IEM front it's a toss up between:
Ultimate Ears Superfi.3
Etymotic Er-6i
Shure 2c

All three have strengths and weaknesses. Er-6is have pretty balanced mids/highs but the cable is a beat weak (mine broke). The super.fi 3s are probably the best of the lot though, but have slightly weaker highs mmmkay

yeah if it were me i'd go with the superfi.3 but do some google research.

Lizard 12-15-2007 11:49 PM

Cool, but I'm not a big fan of earbud headphones. My bro got me a christmas present that looks like it's in the shape of headphones packaging. Maybe I don't need to buy them. But then again, what if it isn't, then I've wasted all this time waiting. Oh man.

Klown 12-15-2007 11:59 PM

They aren't earbuds, they are IEMs. They go into the ear canal and provide sound isolation/pretty good sound, they also don't fall out every 2 seconds like earbuds.

Lord Blazer 12-16-2007 02:17 AM

high quality earbuds:

Skullcandy, at that. Sometimes FYE has them for $10. They are ace.
