Patencio Photo Megathread (updated 12/14/07)

I recently got my Dad's old Pentax MX 35mm camera from the 1970's, and I've started taking photos wih it. I'll try to update this thread fairly regularly, as I've been invited to be in a photo exhibition in January at a gallery here, so I'm taking a lot of pictures right now to get back in the hang of shooting film, since I prefer not to do digital for the show, and I've been exclusively digital photography for the last 5 years. I'm pretty out of practice, but the Pentax is good for me because it is completely manual. The only thing is has is an LED light meter built into it.

These pics were shot on 1600 ISO Fuji Black and White film, then scanned from the 4x6 prints.

Those are really good. They all look overexposed, but it works beautifully.

nice pics peter

Old cameras rock.

I'm no photographer but to get that kind of effect with digi-cams you gotta photoshop right?

Or did you photoshop these...?

Crazy Ivan 11-14-2007 09:18 AM

No, no photoshop except to scan them and in the case of the last photo I posted, adjust the blacks level (the lab printed it incorrectly, causing the sky to be too light). Also, while you can achieve a somewhat similar grain and contrast look with photoshopped Digicam pics, I have yet to find a DSLR that produces a similarly pleasing depth of field.

Invisbl Shado 11-14-2007 09:26 AM

Nifty. Post more! (of Jason)

So, then... is that guy doing Heroine really, and if so, why are you hanging out with junkies?

Kevitus 11-20-2007 12:23 PM

Ahaha.

Compcat 11-20-2007 02:03 PM

I was gonna make an awesome photoshop of Jason injecting pictures of famous heroines into himself like Sigourney Weaver from Aliens, but I'm just not that motivated to put so much work into pointing out humorous typos.

Anyways, I hang out with junkies because I'm a junkie too:

Why do you both have emo glasses?

Rabid Dinosaur 11-21-2007 03:11 AM

Vaginal purposes.

Bob Toasted 11-28-2007 09:42 PM

those are really good.
I used to work in the photo lab at my work and every so often some wannabe artsy kids would come in with their C-41 black and white film that they took with a nice, new, auto exposure camera. They'd turn out looking like normal everyday pictures, just black and white. When they came to pick them up with dissappointment after looking through their prints. I told them to find an old ass camera that they could control more than the on/off switch. yeah. them bitches irked me.

I think maybe you have no idea what emo means.

I spent thanksgiving in a small town in Missouri where my cousins live. While there I stumbled across a weird classic car showroom in a secluded road in an old auto showroom garage. I took some pretty awesome photos, I'll be posting them later today.

Crazy Ivan 11-29-2007 12:23 AM
