Transformers

Who's excited about the new Transformers movie that's coming out? I am; I think it looks awesome.

Adam Clough 06-26-2007 02:28 PM

Yeah, I don't think I'm gonna bother. Transformers was a pretty influential thing when I was a kid and the movie was the first I'd ever seen at a cinema. If this was being made by people my age or from that same generation, I might bother. But it's not. It's old men looking to cash in on a franchise they remember their kids liking. And that isn't right. Transformers deserves a lot better than a nerd tainted Michael Bay movie.

It'd be like eating peppermint choc-chip ice cream, but without the choc-chips.

You'll still be happy eating green peppermint ice cream when you don't know any better, but if you've had choc-chip, the difference matters.

McJuicy 06-26-2007 03:14 PM

i hate peppermint ice cream

Allergic 2 Life 06-26-2007 03:51 PM

this is gonna be another movie that'll be hip to hate

Tuna Hematoma 06-26-2007 04:45 PM

Another fantastic movie under Bay's belt!

Feuyaer 06-26-2007 08:02 PM

Hah. I don't have too much of an interest in it, and never liked the toys at all when I was younger, but: I've got a friend who works in a theater, and employees are able to invite a guest and watch the movie before it's shown to the public. So, seeing it early AND for free? I guess I'll partake. At least ILM looks like they did a good job with the CG, so I guess it's worth seeing for that.

fgt.

I dunno if I'm gonna see it, they jewed up optimus and megatron pretty badly. I liked The Island a lot though. Most of the fight scenes from the new TF movie look lik utter shit.

Tin Man 06-26-2007 10:28 PM

Transmetal Optimus Primal was the coolest fucking toy.

to be fair, it does look like someone wiped his arse on a projection reel.

Swishy III 06-28-2007 02:28 PM

Saw it tonight (opening night here in Aus), the fight scenes were incredible, it was good to finally see some mech destruction in the real world. I felt it dragged a little, but it was fairly enjoyable all round with some good funny bits and some awesome action sequences.

No way, it'll go off. Everyone wants to see giant robot destruction on the big screen.
It's just the 70 percent majority of people who'll go apeshit for this are either too young or too old to remember what was cool about Transformers in the first place other than what's there at face value [ie green peppermint ice cream]
So they won't get to see what it would've been like if it was done with passion from people who 'got it'. [no choc chips]

It's like the difference between Terminator 2 & 3, this movie is gonna be the T3 to the original transformers T2. It'll still kick it's fair share of ass, but it's gonna be missing the x-factor that only the right people for the job can bring.

Michael Jeffrey 06-28-2007 04:24 PM

X-factor? Did you ever see the original animated tranformers movie? That was some weird shit.

I don't care if it's nothing like the previous tranformers shows and movies. I just wanna see lots of CG.

Damage Jackal 06-28-2007 06:00 PM

this movie kicked fuckin ass

Whitey 06-28-2007 06:52 PM

Megan Fox is hot

Question: How do they talk?

I remember seeing a trailer where his lip (yes, LIPS) moved, and he goes, "I AM OPTIMUS PRIME".

Please tell me they didn't go down that route.

Regardless, I'm seeing it the night before the opening night, this Monday I think.

Damage Jackal 07-04-2007 07:17 AM

Ok I saw this a second time and the dialogue is almost completely unbearable when you know what's coming. The human characters are all horrible and I wanted to smack every single one of them at one point. However the fight scenes were still super impressive.

Destra 07-04-2007 09:04 AM

Transformers was my favourite thing as a kid, and I still love it so much that I own all the G1 DVDs, except for season 4 (but that doesn't really count, it's only 3 episodes introducing the Headmasters). And I have to say this movie was really fucking awesome.

what the fuck? i have no idea what the ice cream analogy means. And what fucking X-factor? It was a japanese cartoon about giant fighting robots. the "X-factor" was that YOU WERE 12 YEARS OLD.

Nik Steevi 07-04-2007 10:08 AM

I think a lot of children of the eighties look back with rose tinted glasses on when it comes to the Transformers. I mean, the animated movie was decent, but the series (particularly post-movie), was pretty awful at times. I mean "the Girl who loved Powerglide".....What's with that?

But I suppose it was a good idea with some cool characters like Prime and Megatron etc. Certainly the first season.

As for this new movie. I will look at it with an open mind, because I don't EVER go to a film with the expectation that its going to be the best thing ever. It'll probably be reasonably entertaining.... and loud.

As for anyone who says that it totally betrays the G1 transformers by changing things, well they are just hypercritical because Transformers has had so many different incarnations over the years, its a moot point.

transformers fucking ruled. the humour was actually fucking REALLY FUNNY, the transformers had great personality. and also - the effects blew my mind, and also - Shia LeBouf is a great natural young actor who dealt really well with turning some lame lines into believable and passable ones.
it was a little cheesy at times, but really its just that Australian girl that was in it. SHE WOULDNT KNOW HOW TO TURN ON A FRIGGING COMPUTER. women!
what a great film

see it again. trust me, you will completely reevaluate your stance on the humour and shia lebouf.

I laughed when the soldier's daughter cried for him. Silly Micheal Bay. It's Pearl Harbour all over again.

wes337 07-04-2007 07:10 PM

The entire "teen love story" thing pretty much killed it.

Feuyaer 07-04-2007 08:10 PM

LOL Wes, you saw it?

Yeah I saw it two days ago. Ugh. It could have been so much better if those two brats got off of the screen. Typical Michael Bay; throwing in crappy character development and bad dialog to accompany the visuals on screen and BAM you have got a movie.

It was alright though. The fight scenes and the end were awesome. And it totally hints on a sequel.

Too bad Megatron couldn't do this anymore.
