Vlarion - The Elemental War

Not to be confused with the 2006 movie of the same name.

This is the original that the recent release is based on, in all its text-dialogue, static-camera, default-scenery, RPG gimmick-laden glory. When I was making this, I was vicariously living out my childhood dream to create my own RPG in the only creative outlet I had; it wasn't until weeks away from completion of Vlarion 4 that I was even aware of a 3dmm community, and I wisely decided this was a series better submitted to DragonFilms instead of 3dmm.co.uk or anywhere else.

The bizarre anachronisms of Vlarion 1 are best addressed by the 74-minute remake that pulls its guts apart and reconstructs them with a level of detail and care I couldn't manage at age 14 in 1999, with 3dmm's basic toolset, with no voice actors at my call. For the first iteration, however, this was imagination run amok, with no consideration to your Manifestos or your actual audiences. Still, the amount of success and infamousness I got on DragonFilms surprised me. Same with the amount of copycats I've seen, which get more endearing and flattering as the years crawl by.

So I watched this a couple years ago, and the storytelling was very solid, although the dialogue was very... 14 years old.
Still, it was a lot of fun, even with the default scenery and stuff.
Maybe I'll do a Vlarion Series review sometime. Once I have a free 4 is hours.

Hey Aaron, I'll be posting the soundtrack here soon, if that's okay with you.

Here's the soundtrack, in full MIDI glory!

Special thanks to the guys at UGMO, inc. for that 3DMM .mids to .mid converter.

Hah, cool. I actually found the midis for all of the movies recently on an old CD, I'll zip and upload if anyone wants them.

Sounds good.

AV3's midi collection is different from what's in the final movie -- the later tracks are missing, while there are about six or seven tracks that didn't get used. If someone could rip the ones from the actual .3mm file, that'd be cool.

Jim Raynor 08-12-2007 11:37 PM

ON IT.
EDIT: DONE.
CAPS LOCK

Any possibility of a wmv of this? I want to watch it again, but vista fucks midis up, and that kind of ruins the movie.

This is an old movie, but it is pretty good for a once 14 year old.
