Reading through an evolutionary standpoint textbook thingy, apparently women seek out resources in a mate above all else. Men, on the other hand, seek to know the origin of their coming brood, and thus will respond with violence if need be if that is threatened (#1 reason for homicide). Women, as stated before, think tend toward the act of fornication as being apart from an actual relationship, however the use of resources toward another woman would be completely and entirely threatening. For it is resources for their coming brood that they cherish above all else, and if that is split between multiple women, that endangers the allotment left for their own children.
