The 2006 Toronto Film festival
For the few people in Toronto or slightly outside of Toronto...are you planning to see any movies there and what do you plan to see?
James Berardinelli at reelviews.net provided a pretty good summary of movies to look out for, so here's a bunch I read up on and would be interested in seeing. Though for some, if I am sure it'll hit theatres eventually, I'll probably wait till then...it'll save me some money. I'm still not fond of the $20 per movie at TIFF. The Fountain: http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/thefountain/trailer1/ One of the most amazing trailers I've seen in a long time. I did however hear that the film got bood big time at the Venice Film fest. But...look at that fucking preview! Death of a President: http://www.e.bell.ca/filmfest/2006/f...tion.asp?id=88 A film about the assasination of George W. Bush. This probably has to be seen here, because I don't quite see this movie getting distribution in the U.S. Renaissance: http://www.apple.com/trailers/miramax/renaissance/hd/ Holy crap! The comic book look to this film is bloody amazing! Making it a pure black and white rotoscoped movie is a really interesting idea, and does look visually better than Waking Life and Scanner Darkly. I however have the urge to see this film while high...nah, maybe I'll just watch a 2nd time while high, and appreciate the film first time sober. I hear it's really good. For Your Consideration http://www.e.bell.ca/filmfest/2006/f...ion.asp?id=125 Christopher Guest strays away from his trademark mockumentary format. I have yet to see a bad Christopher Guest film. It'll be really nice to see what he does in a straight forward narrative format, and it's great to see that all the actors are back. I'm most excited to once again see Fred Willard who stole the show in both Best in Show and A Mighty Wind. Stranger Than Fiction http://www.e.bell.ca/filmfest/2006/f...ion.asp?id=285 This movie stars Will Ferrel playing a more serious role along with Maggie Gyllenhaal, Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman. Very interesting casting and quite an interesting storyline. I've so far read a very positive review, but there's no doubt that this'll hit theatres shortly after. I might wait for this one in theatres. Babel: http://www.e.bell.ca/filmfest/2006/f...tion.asp?id=26 I don't know much about the movie besides the fact that James Berardinelli is calling it one of the best films of the year, and that it's the same dude that directed 21 grams. It's supposed to be extremely depressing, but a great film. The pleasure of your company: http://www.e.bell.ca/filmfest/2006/f...ion.asp?id=230 I like Jason Biggs and putting him in a really fucked up, twisted romantic comedy sounds interesting. It says that the director's part of Reno 911 which is an inconsistent show, but has its really funny moments. |
how can will ferrel do a serious role
|
See for yourself. I heard he's comedic in some moments and not so comedic in others, but he doesn't do his usual over the top comedy.
He already tried out more mature roles in Melinda and Melinda in which he was absolutely hilarious and Winter Passing where I thought he did a decent job, but the movie itself was very average. |
God fucking damnit I want to.
|
yay, election, election 2, and invisible waves were all awesome.
|
But you can't see anything!
|
sucks to be me :O
|
I can't wait to see The Fountain, the shots in the film are identical to those in the graphic novel, and DARREN ARONOFSKY. ELLEN FUCKING BURSTYN. Yeap!
|
double post
|
I seriously cannot wait to see THe Fountain.
|
If anybody gets a signed copy of Requiem for a Dream DVD by Darren Aronofsky, I will pay dearly for it.
Though I'm pretty sure he's not going to this festival. BUT IF HE IS MAYBE MAGIC COINCIDENCE? If he wants to make it out to anybody say TO KARLY. |
Actually, Toronto is a fairly prominent fest in the film biz. He might just.

I might be able to... how much would you PAY? By the way, maybe you're interested in these: http://cgi.ebay.ca/Requiem-for-a-Dre...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.ca/REQUIEM-FOR-A-DRE...QQcmdZViewItem |
Well if a poster is going for $50-$120, and a script is going for $20, for a signed DVD I would pay $30-50, but if it is signed personally to Karly I will payt $60-$80 dollars, maybe more depending on the quality of the DVD.
If it's all perfect and sexy and I like everything about it I'd go $100+. Also nude pictures. |
Alright. I'm buying tickets to The Fountain right now so I can poke and pester my all time favorite director.
|
Just a small bump with something that's probably not of interest for anyone but me. Norwegian film Reprise just won the Diesel Discovery Award after over 900 international media delivered their votes. That's pretty awesome.
Has anyone seen Pan's Labyrinth, by the way? I'm really pumped for that one, and I heard it got a standing ovation in Toronto. |
I have been waiting for Pan's Labyrinth since October of last year.
