Fly

This is the sixth movie of The Short Film Festival of 2006.
The final movie for this FF is brought to you by Richard Bevis. Please provide mirrors if possible. |
Unless I get another movie in the mail by tomorrow, this will be the last movie of the FF.

That was pretty neat. In concept it seemed pretty similar to Dance of the Firefly. It seemed, however, to be aesthetically inferior. Some great-looking opening credits and lots of pretty scenery in the beginning, but lots of clashing colors and galaxies of broken glass. Also, using a FLY seems kind of silly. If it was a bird or something it would be beautiful or magestic, but a Nickelodeon fly just seems goofy. Also, I think the animation seems rushed. Everything from the kid on his bike to the birds seems to move retardedly fast. For the most part, though, it's a fun experience. It seems worth at least one watch.
Conclusion: A roller coaster of color and Hilary Duff-ness and a competent addition to the fest, but nothing to write home about. Bevis seems to yet have much untapped potential. 6/10 |

Well I wasn't going to use a fly to start off with but the film is called Fly so I thought it would tie in nicely. And yes, in some places it's very rushed. I've posted before that towards the end of it's creation my computer restarted itself and I experienced some v3dmm bugness so I lost it. I had to remake half of it quite quickly to make the deadline. |
That was kinda cool. Like HMC said, bits seem rushed, but then, they WERE rushed, so it makes sense.
I liked the bike at the start and waking up etc. It really set the whole mood of "This is a happy kid who lives on top of a mountain, and now he's standing at the mountain and getting fresh air" sorta thing. Then the space thing started and spun me out. Hahaha. Just wasn't expecting it. Though, I don't really know WHAT I expected to happen. Yeah, cool movie. 68% |
I loved it.
The bit with the kid and the fly, flying around space and stuff, I thought it was all kinda random. But overall I found this as a really interesting watch and you are getting better at 3dmm every time you release something. Great work, RICHIE. |
The music was kind of a bizarre pick, given this community's general taste, but I actually thought it worked well.
Richard, I really admire your ability to overcome 3dmm's inherent cartoon insincerity, and create wonderful pieces of art like this. BTW, I added a *.zip version to the download mirrors. |
Thanks for the comments and that zipped version there Goat :).

Nice film, Rich! I agree that the animation would've worked better if it was slower, and I think the sound quality of the music was a little off-putting, but you're incredibly talented. The ending was surprisingly touching.
I demand that your next project be more of a movie, less of a short. I'd love to see your work on screen for longer than a few minutes at a time. |
Well thanks! I guess I would prefer to release a longer film, but even I Love You, My Darling seemed like such a chore towards the end. I really love making my music shorts :).

This was neat.
BUT. I couldn't help but think that it was just "capitalizing" on the success of Firefly. It has similar themes, and I just couldn't get it out of my head. that said, it is still yummily animated (as we can always expect from Richard) but he has such POTENTIAL, I JUST WISH HE'D MAKE A REAL MOVIE AND NOT THESE SHORT ONES!!!! YOU GOT THE ABILITY RICHARD, JUST DO IT. JUST. DO IT. DON'T JUST DO IT FOR ME. Do it.. for Steve Irwin :( |
Do you wanna know the scary thing? I hadn't even realised that this was remotely similar to Firefly until I'd finished it. And then I was like FUCK they're like the same DAMN THING. This was never going to be spectacular anyway because it was made in such a short time for a short movie festival.

hi richard still haven't watched this i will when i get home bye.
|
Wait... THAT was the short film fest? WHAT A JOKE.
|
Where was YOUR contribution, Bernatrick?
|
I'm sure everyone was hoping for a better turnout, including myself, but I had
already delayed it for 3 weeks. It was this or nothing. |
I wish that happened to me.
