I love old school animation. Warms my heart it does!

Did he ever release the unfinished movie?

HMC 02-13-2008 11:56 PM

Aye

Holy shit, I never saw this (and somehow never got around to watching the unfinished CC). I had no idea Maltby was ever that good at secondary animation e.g. Gustave reaching into his pocket or blowing smoke away from his gun, that was detailed beyond his usual style. The flashing title pulling out from the gunfire was nice too.

This was one hell of a preview.

Gorosaurus 02-14-2008 05:35 AM

That stretching beyond his range of comfort seemed to be what killed him

Aaron Haynes 02-14-2008 07:18 AM

I don't think so, at least not in the case of this preview, cause it's not work-intensive stuff and he does it so effortlessly. It's the kind of finesse I wouldn't have pegged him for.

Oh my god, that's so fucking badass.
If i remember correctly, none of those scenes were on the actual unfinished movie, am I right?
Watching this reminded me how popular was to use the "precaching textures" intro animation, so silly and so (like Tom well said) hearth warming; But that (amongst other things), seemed, somehow to give movies more innovative dynamics and make it a little bit "awesomer".
Also...man, the last CC moving logo it's pure brilliance, so smoothly animated.

Btw, I guess scenary related stuff never was Maltby's strong point. oh well...

Maltby was brilliant at sound syncing and animating. Like, the technical side to 3dmm he was a genius. Not as much at actual art or entertainment, though (imo).

Hahaha, yes. I made Dominator Dan keep the caching animation he did for JDR Revival even after he found out it didn't do anything, just cause they're fun.

There is just something underwhelming in having hordes of guys onscreen, though. It doesn't matter the movie, it just never seems to have an impact to me.

What does have an impact is the completely psychotic aura Maltby was able to give Gustave just through camera angles. Those pumping zoom-ins and picking such an angle as to make the hat give him an angry look.. that's great. There was just a touch of that in DD itself

Yo' guys watch this and have a little nostalgia boost.

I really really wish this was finished.

Sorry for the BUMP.
But do anyone knows the song that plays in this preview?

Dave Miles 02-17-2011 02:59 AM

3dmm + lens flare = no

Dominator Dan 02-17-2011 03:02 PM

There's more than one song JT, Will Maltby clever blends the tracks together by changing the songs when all you can hear is loud gun noises.

From what I remember from browsing the sound files back when I had the unfinished 3mm file of Cataclysmic Contentment itself, Will Maltby was enjoying a lot of Leftfield in his movies.

This is what plays at the end, i only knew this one because it was in that famous guinness horse advert so knew where to look, as for the other 2, no idea, but the other songs are probably by Leftfield too.

Jt Copper 02-18-2011 03:59 PM

Well I was trying to find the other one.
Thanks anyways.

I miss will maltby. :(

Old Rivers 02-18-2011 04:55 PM

He left four years before you joined.

Jt Copper 02-18-2011 04:59 PM

I know he did, but he actually said he would be coming back someday.
