So how did you find 3dmm.com?
Be specific. This is for an important study. If you've been here for more than a month don't feel obligated to answer.
|
Aaha!
|
it was a popular website that wasn't just a stinkin' forum when i found it. actually i think it wasn't at 3dmm.com when i first found XSG Industries.
|
searching for v3dmm expansions.
|
I'm curious, how did you learn of V3DMM before finding 3DMM.com?
|
When Jpro gave me 3dmm he also randomly showed me this site (even though he didn't register till after me)

Originally I found 3dmm at a friend's house, it came with their computer and they pretty much hated it, but for some reason I was really eager to give it a shot. I thought it was awesome and they had no problem letting me borrow it (I still have their copy, I'm sure they forgot about it. So I messed with it for a long time when I was little and virtually forgot about it, until.... After doing a search or randomly stumbling through the internet, I found Tunafilms and Dragon Films (can't remember which I had found first). I spent a while exploring most of what those sites had to offer and eventually clicked the link that led me here.
|
In August 1998, I was working for my dad at his office and i found the CD and the case for 3dmm sitting with his junk and i asked if i could have it. When i realized that it would be possible to share the .3mm files over the net, i searched it up on altavista and found Kalle Oredson's 3dmm Studio. From there things just progressed until 3dmm.com was formed.
|
3dmm.co.uk, during the sig wars. Travis's posts got me hooked, Frankie's findings of an expansion featuring a show that was showing around Portuguese tv got me inside.
First person to contact? I think it was Tuffe. |
I stole 3dmm from this girl I knew back in like 1997. I used to make really shitty movie parodies and political thrillers with it (don't ask). Then in 2000 I started looking for 3dmm movies online and found 3dmm.co.uk. After watching a bunch of movies over the next year or so, I finally got bored and went to the links section and found 3dmm.com. I first started reading the bb in October of 2001, right after the switch from the EZboards, and I signed up in December, just before the sig wars and the goat meltdown of christmas/new year's '01.
|
Goddamnit, i just fucking replied to this. I'll rewrite it later.
|
4 years ago I was round Chris's house and he told me that Ryan was on 3dmm.com and I was like * Rolls eyes * 'Wooow.'

Tuffe John Showed me.

Link from 3dmm.co.uk.
3dmm.co.uk while searching for 3dmm movies to download, to see if there were any other GOOD MAKERS out there. I thought I was tough shit for using red cubes for blood, and then I found 3dmm.co.uk and was like "oh shit." |
hahaha me too. I did a "morph" effect for a Terminator 2 parody I did, and thought I was the shit at 3dmm. Then I downloaded one of the wrestlmainia movies by NTA, and promptly crapped.
|
oh yeah, i got linked to XSG from the 1st 3dmm site i found, Jeremy's 3D Movie Maker Page.
|
A Google search brought me to the recently deceased 3dmm.co.uk, where I hung around for a while before moving on to check out the BB
|
XSG which turned into 3dmm dot com... I REMEMBER WHEN ME AND QAZ WERE ALL, "HEY GOAT, YOU SHOULD GET A BOARD DEALY AND GET RID OF THE GUESTBOOK" and he was all, "NAW, THAT'S NOT COOL" ...LOOK WHO'S COOL NOW.
DEFINATELY NOT TOM BOWN. |
I came from 3dmm.co.uk too. It was like a spawning grounds or something.
|
After regaining interest about 2 years ago, (after like a 6 year gap) I searched the web looking for a copy of the game, and found Maltby's site.
And since I grew up with this game, and to see SO MANY MOVIES for a program that I thought was such a flop that I was the single last person on earth to ever continue with it was a HUGE deal to me. I hadn't even considered hand made scenes or ANYTHING, so when I saw eventually saw DD it was like holy motherfuck. SOOO, I searched some more, found the board somehow, and then the funny guys like Taco and Ruiz kept me coming back, AND NOW HERE I IS! |
through dot coh dot yew kay 6 years ago.
|
I found the DFT years ago and downloaded two things. Then after I got more access to the internet, a random search for 3dmm found Dragon Films, so I made stuff and got it on there, woohoo!
After watching it and .co.uk for months I eventually got bored and found a link here. So I registered, posted a dozen stupid things, left, came back a year later, and then we're now. |
I saw the game in Best Buy and thought it looked awesome. This was probably within months of the original release. I wanted it but later found out it wouldn't run on my computer. But then my mom bought it anyway and I played it on my grandma's computer (wtf?). I stopped playing and later came back to it and decided to search for movies online. Yep, don't really remember which website I found first. Might have been this one, when it had content.
|
I placed a hold on something called "3D Movie Maker" from the public library. I was quite disappointed when I went to pick it up after it arrived: instead of a serious movie-making program, there was a big ol' picture of Salvador slapped onto the back cover. I was like "Wha-?" But I gave it a try anyway.
First it was DRAGON FILMS (you rule, Greg), then 3dmm.com from one of Greg's links. |
What's 3dmm.com?
|
I dunno, some crappy site.
|
NTA was all
"Hey! go to this site!" And I was all "Okay" To this day is have not seen one 3DMM movie. |
I have very conflicting feelings about you.
|
I got a copy of the game off a family friend who didn't want it. So after about a year of making crappy movies in default scenery with my friend I decided to search the net to see if others had made movies like us. Which is when I found Dragon Films. With the standards I was used to I found every movie on that site to be mind-boggling. Especially Vlarion and that one about the guy who gets thrown in prison because he looks like a criminal.
Anyway, long story short. After browsing between Explode Productions and Dragon Films for quite a while I decided to check out that one link that said "3dmm.com". I'd never been to an internet forum before so I was quite reluctant. Anyway I joined up and a few years later here I am. |
found Georgefilms by Googling "Microsoft 3D Movie Maker," and links led here

hah oh gosh Presumed Guilty, yes I loved that one as well |
Typed 'McZee' into Google, came up with the Stick Ribbon Campaign to ban McZee website, whcih led me to 3dmm.org, which led me to Explode Productions, which led me to 3dmm.com.
I would've found it a few years sooner, but I always searched for '3D Movie Maker', which gave some obscure results, rather than '3dmm', and have only referred to it as such since coming here. |
yeah ditto
|
When I was searching around the Agonising fortress of 3dmm Studio. I found the links. TA-DA.

I did the same thing! I remember that exact thing now. Wow. I don't remember how I specifically found the website though. HMMM |
I picked 3dmm out of my neighbour's game collection I guess 6 or so years ago and we played it for a while. I thought it was awesome but I forgot about it for a couple of years until one really boring R.E lesson at school I thought, "Hey I remember that game, I'll track it down". So I searched for it and found 3dmm Studio. I tried downloading it but of course it wouldn't, so I got it off eBay. I did a little more research and Will Cheyney directed me to 3dmm.com. I signed up under Samara Morgan, which changed about 2 months later. :)
|
Mr. Cheyney shows it to me as I was watching/sorta helping him update 3dmm studio in 2003.
|
So nobody here found 3dmm.com by the link from the old BB?
Hahaha I remember when they old BB was closing... Will Maltby changed all the images and colors to make like there was anthrax evacuation to 3dmm.com |
google.com, when i first saw this site i couldn't believe it was a real 3dmm-Site because of the HUGE member-count.

Anyway, I found 3dmm.com when I typed it in my address bar and got a 404 "page cannot be displayed" error. I thought, "hey, I should buy that".
I was really motivated because Oz had just closed McZee Ate My Trousers, and I wanted to run the next "hub" site for the community. The community was in disarray after he closed his doors, and back then a domain name like that was all it took to get everyone back together. |
I was just messing around on a friends computer years ago and I saw he had it installed. Interested, I opened it up and started messing around with it. He said I could borrow it indefinately and then told me that there was some you could download off the net. A few months later when I finally got the internet, I began searching and found some sites.
|
Sometime during April I was looking on the net to find some way of converting .3mm files into video files. I then stumbled across 3dmm.com and i was gob smacked that there were all these people still using it and that there were expansions for it. Me and my younger brother were always wishing that Microsoft would release an upgraded form of 3dmm, but all this stuff is great.
|
November 2005, I have find 3dmmstudio.co.uk searching for 3D Movie Maker
I have downloaded some movie and then, in the Links page, I have found 3dmm.com |
My friend got a copy free with his computer, and after a while he traded it to me for my Gameshark for Playstation. I made Rabbits Eat Lettuce 1 and 2 before I found Dragon Films.
Drugheads was the first movie I remember really being wowed by. After that I really got into the whole sniper movie thing, and I wanted to take the absurd title trend to the next step. I put together some ideas from watching other movies, and, after finding the EZBoard, reading what people in the community talked about. I worked on Apparent Lack of a Sniper at Bob the Ninja's HQ for a long long LONG time. Like, 3 months or something. That was a long time for me, since all my other movies had been done in like a maximum of two days. So I released ALoaS and the community was totally amazed by it. Or at least I felt like they were totally amazed. I was a no name newbie at the time, and that movie pretty much got me accepted by the community, which is what I had intended it to do. While in the process of directing ALoaS, I had come up with elaborate back story and sequal ideas. After it's release, I planned on making two small sequals, and then an epic prequel. That idea eventually turned into one giant sequal, which would switch back between past and present. That eventually turned into getting bored with 3dmm and abandoning the project altogether. ...S- ...So that's how I found 3dmm.com. |
Man, sometimes, and I don't really know why this happens, I forget how long you've been here, and that you were here before me. I think it's the avatar that throws me for some reason. But then I remember the Harris-tar that you had FOREVER with the grey ninja with red...ninja bandana things, and it all comes rushing back.
|
Man, I miss those Harris-tars. Anyone still have theirs?
|
I found a link to the old ezboard forum from some crappy geocities site.
|
3dmm.co.uk frequenter, until I saw an update where Will was like "And you wonder why me and Space Goat haven't merged sites...well blah blah something about conflicting power issues"
And so I was like "what's this other 3dmm site they're talkin about?" SO I went to 3dmm.com, and the news place didnt really hook me cause there were no movies, just news stuff. I posted a few times on the old bb, but I didn't like the layout. So I came back about a year later and it was changed! |
^^ introduced me to 3dmm -> 3dmm.co.uk -> 3dmm.com
|
When I was eleven-ish a friend showed me a Will Maltby movie (can't remember which). It blew my mind into a thousand pieces, so I found 3DMM.co.uk and found 3dmm.com
It shattered my nice little world thoroughly. Bastards. |
DOBBELS!

Oh hi.

I searched on 3dmm movies, and found XGS.
Soon after that, I made copies of 3dmm for people at school. It was Matt Ford who went to the guestbook, and found out it wasn't just a guestbook, but like a community discussion thing. |

Holy shit. Done. |
Okay, we've heard how you found 3dmm.com, but tell us how you got back?
|
I got bored one day way back in 1997 and typed "3d Movie Maker" into a search engine. 20th Century Rat came up in the results. I went there and downloaded a few movies one of which went by the name of "James Bond 2000". But in the links there was Mczee's Nuclear Bungalow run by Spacegoat. That site eventually evolved into 3dmm.com.

I was bored so I decided to wander over here and see what's going on. That's all. |
Behind your dad's back or something?
|
What? Oh no. My parents have been off my ass for a while now. In fact, I'll be moving out soon. I just never got around to coming back.
|
Excellent

Basically same with me, but I got the 3dmm cd with my new computer. |
I convinced my dad to buy it for me at a computer fair, way back after it was first released. And, being friends with Mousenator, I was looking through his computer when I found out he had 3dmm as well. After a while of swapping little movies between us, he found 3dmm.co.uk to which we both then frequented. I followed the links to the BB, but never joined up because it didn't have any movies or things that interested me. However, mouse joined up and convinced me to do likewise, and I've been here ever since.
