The real problem comes from using expansions like "car.vxp" or "tree.vxp". I really wish people would extract the files from those vxps, change their shortnames, longnames, and IDs using pencil, and use those copies instead of the archaic ones that end up conflicting with all the other expansions people have given lazy, generic names to. It's not that hard, and by now most of us have at least a working understanding of how vxp files work.

Anyways, I'll definitely check this out tomorrow, and so should everyone else. Your movies are always a delight (though moreso as release date increases ;)).

Bown 06-09-2006 07:57 AM

Am I the only one getting texture problems? For instance, the texture used for grass is some weird blue thing instead.

Bown 06-09-2006 08:18 AM

Even so, that was pretty damn awesome. The plot and voices were the CNCW norm, which is brilliant, and your animation and scenery have improved greatly, even since Sanity Clause. I loved this movie and you should all watch it.

PS. I found the secret poster and can't wait for December.

Shootfast 06-09-2006 08:27 AM

I've heard lots of great things about Ned's Movies, and I'd love to get into them. Do they follow a set story line, requiring me to watch earlier films? Or are they all seperate? In either case, Ned's one of the few directors who's really striving to keep the community going. I shall watch this sooner or later (depending on if they're a series). Good job on another release though!!

Aaron Haynes 06-09-2006 08:39 AM

They are a series, but a) all of them are easily accessible to a first time viewer, even direct sequels, and b) this is actually a prequel to everything else he's done. You couldn't get any earlier, chronologically, than this.

Shootfast 06-09-2006 08:40 AM

Awesome. I shall watch it now.

Shootfast 06-09-2006 09:47 AM

Ok, I Just watched it. This movie is clearly up to the hype that surrounds it. A very nicely written, feel good movie and the voice acting was all top notch! I'll certainly be going back to see all of the other films now. Keep up the excellent work! I'll be looking forward to the next one!

Anders Borg 06-09-2006 11:16 AM

I find your movies to be very entertaining and fun to watch, Ned. They're special and you're such a great writer! Can't wait for your next movie. :)

8.5/10

Patmoredogs 06-09-2006 12:15 PM

You're my most buggy watcher, Tom. :lol I have no idea why the grass is blue for you. The grass textures are mostly created using Ferret's terrain textures, which I can't imagine clashing with any other expansions due to their clear and original filenames.

Haha, awesome... I didn't expect anyone to notice it so soon. But don't hold your breath... it was just a thought. Nothing's written in stone at this point. At any rate, it leads into the current 2001 version of that movie.

Yeah... fortunately, though, I used a custom prefix for each of the expansions specificially created for this movie. If there were to be any clashes going on, it would most definitely be with the stuff made by others. But hopefully not.

Thanks for the positive vibes, all. Glad to hear y'all are liking this one the best so far. Even Tony, which really shocked me... I was sure Sanity Clause would be his fave.

And yes, this is a prequel, so it works wonderfully as a first watch for anybody interested in my little series. The rest of the movies are currently offline while I update them with current logo screens and fix any last little details. I'll be pestering Tuna to re-upload them all for me as soon as possible.

Jon Barton 06-09-2006 02:13 PM

Fuck all of you rar loving hypocrites.

..There's a hint in there somewhere.

Ned 06-09-2006 02:30 PM

...I cannot detect it.

Do you have a problem working with .rar's?

Ben Rice 06-09-2006 02:35 PM

He just wants someone to ZIP it for him.
You certainly know how to work quickly Ned, DOWNLOADIN'.

I encourage people to use the Terrain Textures that are included in the Dark Ages Battle Pack, because they are far better in my opinion (I created every single one of them to tile seamlessly). That and the quality/resolution of them is far better, in my opinion.

Ned 06-09-2006 03:01 PM

You're telling me this quite late. In my opinion. :p But I think your old ones worked fine.

Yeah, but that little pool of conflicting expansions (car.vxp, tree.vxp, etc.) is growing wider and deeper as more movies continue to use one version or another. Let's say two movies existed that had an expansion conflict like this. One had car.vxp #1 and the other had car.vxp #2. If someone just watched one of them, they wouldn't notice any problems, but if they tried to watch both, the second one wouldn't work, and they'd have no idea why.

Since this problem has been noted for months, but people are still using expansions with generic names in their movies, a small library of movies with different car.vxp's and tree.vxp's is building up, making the possibility of movie-stopping glitches higher. The more generic names continue to be used, the more likely it will be that v3dmm gets so bad we have to clear out our expansions folder every time we want to watch a new movie. It'll be like JDR Revolutions all over again.

So: Don't use those expansions, especially if you've had problems with them before. Ask someone how to re-ID and re-name them if you're not sure, but please don't perpetuate the problem by continuing to include "car.vxp" in future films. One conflicted expansion is enough to make the movie stop for someone, which is often enough to make them exit 3dmm out of confusion or irritation and never come back to the movie.

Ned 06-09-2006 07:04 PM

Sound advice. Will do. In fact, if people start complaining about said problem occuring in this movie, I'll happily go back and attempt to fix those expansions.
