motherfucking fucking start menu FUCK.

Okay first off, I hate it just as much as anyone when someone comes on here with technical issues, so I googled, searched, asked, everything'd, and nothing and no one is helping.

This'll be hard to follow so bear with me fellas.

Earlier today my power got shut off, and when it came back on, this is what happened.

I'm going to show you a screenshot of my start menu:

what you see, is NOT what I see.

Everything after the fourth item--which is the thing spray painted red--I CANNOT SEE...but for some reason when I screenshot it, it shows up. To make more clear: Up until the red I can see. The yellow and beyond I can NOT see, unless I screenshot it.

Same goes for everything under WEDNESDAY on the very right... that icon doesn't show up. And WEDNESDAY shouldn't be there anyway, it should just be the time.
It won't let me make it smaller (see how its a little fatter than the default size? I like it at default.)

I'm using Windows XP, incase that helps anyone.

And as usual I've done the usual, reformatted, defragmented, bought new speakers, moved to antarcitca, raped her, draped her, taped her, stapled her, and Tom Bowned her.

Run a virus scan, then a spyware scan... looks viruslike.
Or, if it's not, mess with the display properties.

yeah, I fucked with the resolution, and restarted it of course. and yeah I kinda half assumed it was a virus, I was just hoping it wasn't :(

Sure that you haven't got the picture on your monitor stretched? Fiddle with the on-screen display and bring it back in. It probably got reset to default when you lost power, and now its stretched out past the bounds of the monitor.

EDIT: Fuck with these buttons -

How would that make 'Wednesday' appear?

Will Cheyney 01-12-2006 11:09 AM

Have you tried increasing the size of the Start menu greater than 2 rows? It it always the last row that doesn't appear?

Try messing with the start menus preferences. Try locking/resizing etc.

Yeah, click Customize in the Taskbar Properties, there's loads of shit in mine.

That made me laugh. It was kinda... 'sitcom-ey'... or something

Probably what Kieren said but it could also be your video card. Can you not see it because it's off the screen, or it's just black?

Neither--its just NOT THERE. Like pretend those things didn't exist, ever. That's what it's like. It doesn't run off the screen, and there's nothing black over it or anything.

I appreciate very much the suggestions so far and none of them have worked. :(

I've run Norton too and nothing showed up. Any other ideas?

It must be your monitor then, try hooking your pc up to another.
