Shit, I didn't see this was up because I was uplaoding my file so you weren't in the movie showcase for too long. Can an admin put this movie up on the showcase instead of my movie. This one obviously has more effort put into it.

I'll download this tomorrow as well. Again, sorry I did that, I wasn't aware.

You can avoid the first of these by making a "caching" scene at the beginning of the movie that cycles through every v3dmm expansion you have activated (except textures, unless they're absolutely huge). You've probably seen this older 3DMM movies before, like DD or the JDRs. Back then they were just for show; now, ironically, they actually have a function. The first time an expansion appears, 3DMM takes a second to load it; without a caching scene, the early scenes of expansion-heavy movies get really laggy, since 3DMM is trying to load a lot of big stuff as it appears for the first time.

For the second problem, that often happens in 3DMM, yes, but there are a few things you can do to make sure it plays correctly on every machine: first, obviously, make sure you do a caching scene so the timing doesn't get thrown off as 3DMM loads v3dmm objects for the first time. Second, try to "optimize" scenery made out of expansion fonts like Superdings. The _ object in particular is extremely polygon-heavy, so if you're using more than two of these in a scene, or in combination with a lot of other high-poly props and actors, people with lower-end machines are going to watching your movie in slow motion. At 1fps. Haven't watched Sanity Clause yet, so I dunno if that's prevalent here, but it's good to keep in mind. If you can achieve the same effect with a low-poly model that you can with an extremely complex one, do it. Us with >1GHz machines will thank you for it.

Downloading.

Downloading, will edit with review as soon as downloaded and watched.

Thats a large file for a 20 minute movie?

Destra 12-22-2005 09:29 AM

Well it probably has a lot of V3dmm expansions in it. Custom actors are around 1-1.5MB per actor.

Aaron Haynes 12-22-2005 09:29 AM

v3dmm expansions tend to make movie filesizes a lot bigger than they've been historically for their length.

Edit: Damn you Destra.

Destra 12-22-2005 09:32 AM

When's Vlarion 1 coming out, bitch!?

...sir.

Bown 12-22-2005 10:45 AM

Scene 15 doesn't work for me.

Ben Rice 12-22-2005 10:51 AM

Same.
Other then that, this was a tremendously splendid Christmas film. Good job Neddy!
8/10

Bown 12-22-2005 10:59 AM

I'M NOT WATCHING IT WITHOUT MY SCENE 15.

COS I KNOW IT'S GONNA BE FUCKING AWESOME AND WITHOUT THAT SCENE IT'LL ALL BE RUINED

Anders Borg 12-22-2005 02:27 PM

Haha this was killer. Best Christmas movie yet! 8.5/10

Ned 12-22-2005 03:06 PM

Do I do anything special in a caching scene... other than just have a blank scene? I did that for both DTH2 and this movie. For my computer, it still acts slow, lol.

Okay folks, let's see... the only thing I can imagine with scene 15 is that it has the Kid with Afro, Lotus, and White Car expansions. (And then I have a bunch of text on every frame for the "snow," but that's probably not it.) Hmm. Check and see if those expansions are loaded when you load the movie. I want to get this working for everybody, so LEMME KNOW WHAT'S WRONG SO I CAN FIX IT - FAST!

Bown 12-22-2005 03:16 PM

All of those are activated.

Ned 12-22-2005 03:22 PM

Other than that, just Wackydings. Crap, I have no idea. Tony had no problem with it when I sent it to him last night. How is it working for others out there?? Anders, did you have any problem with scene 15?

Anders Borg 12-22-2005 03:33 PM

Nope.

Red Scorpion 12-22-2005 03:41 PM

This film has made me feel happy! :D 7.9/10

Ned 12-22-2005 03:46 PM

Well it appears that only the British teens are having a problem with my lovely scene 15. Sorry, guys... maybe it's a compatability problem with the UK version of 3DMM?

Well Tom, just skip scene 15 if you can't get it working. You'll miss the music for the next few scenes, but not much else. Frankie just says he was going to teach Gus how to drive.

I'm a british teen... I have the UK version and it was fine... :D

Ned 12-23-2005 02:43 PM

BUMP

No more complaints about scene 15, so I guess we're good.

Orcus 12-23-2005 03:50 PM

Wow that was surprisingly good. Actually I had no idea what to expect but I'm about to watch all of these movies. What's the order?

Glad you liked it! My web site's Movies section contains all the movies in chronological order. A lot of them are down, however, until Tuna gets them online in his next Tunafilms update.

Orcus 12-23-2005 04:10 PM

Awesome. Review coming shortly.

Klaymen 12-23-2005 08:25 PM

Ned... The Marx Bros. would be proud. ;)

That was really great, Ned. Good to see you used "I Saw Her Standing There"

And... This is probably my favorite of all your movies. I think you should make more like this.

10/10.

Digital Taco 12-23-2005 10:39 PM

Bleh, not you too... that makes three. Just skip the scene and miss out on the music and a line of dialogue. I can't fathom why it doesn't work for a select few.
